I think the pace and route tracking are more important for me, I've never used the heart rate monitor. It's big on me, but I usually put it over my shirt sleeve and that helps. On a guy, I think it would be better proportioned. There are newer/nicer watches, but the older clunky model forerunner 305 is really great bc it has a huge screen and buttons are easy to hit while running.
