Have you tried the bottle first? I would offer a bottle at 6:30 and then at 8:30 the solids.
My LO is only 16 weeks but isn't gaining much cause she spits up so much. She has reflux but I think she is going to be like her sister slow to gain till the spitting stops. Which wasn't till 10 months with LO1.

I think if she's happy, eating and sleeping, and hitting her milestones you shouldn't be worried. Both my kids are slow gainers and always hover around the 5th percentile for weight. My older son weighed 17lbs at 1 year and my younger one weighed 18. B is 3 now and only 27lbs. Remember that somebody has to be on the bottom of the charts!

Have you tried offering food as well as formula at those snack periods when she's refusing the bottle? I would guess that either she isn't hungry or she prefers solids to formula.

My kiddo didn't have much weight gain at all between 6 months and 12 months. She was still nursing, and eating a ton of solid food...but she was also moving SO much. She learned to crawl, pull up and cruise between 6 and 8 months and slimmed out quite a bit.

I am also short and petite, and my husband isn't super tall either, so we didn't expect a giant kid. She weighed around 17 lbs at 9 months and around 18 lbs at 12 months. Now at 20 months, she weighs about 22 lbs.

@nugget16: Same as @Banana330: here! Almost identical weights at those same ages. My daughter gained super slowly for her first year and really started packing on the pounds after she turned a year.

But I completely understand how scary it is when your baby isn't gaining weight. I weighed her on my doctor's baby scale once a week for her first six months and then once a month until she was a year. But now you would never know how tiny she once was!

My DD was 16 lbs at 9 months... at a year she was 18.5lbs... now at 2 she's 27lbs! As long as she's not dropping off her curve too much I wouldn't worry. Mine didn't really start gaining until after 9months and really figured out solids.

How long did you try Alimentum? It can take 2 weeks for the dairy to leave her system if that is the problem.

I BF my kids and they all reacted to dairy that I ate. My older two, especially my oldest would only take the minimum amount of milk and basically went on hunger strikes and period of low weight gain. Cutting out the dairy helped, but not right away. I cut out the dairy before my youngest was born and the few times I tested it or accidentally had something I wasn't supposed to, he started spitting up and getting fussy about nursing. I only mention this because you suggested it might be a dairy issue. The symptoms in my kids sound similar to your DD. I think the unfortunate thing in your case is the Alimentum will probably taste different than what she's used to, and probably not in a good way. Maybe you could try mixing it with her normal formula to start and giving it a couple weeks once she is fully on it?

ETA: it is normal for babies to want less formula as they start to eat more solids! Just make sure she's getting some water too. And some babies are just slow to gain but perfectly healthy.

Aww thank you!! I posted the picture so people could see that she does look very nourished. The doctor didn't seem concerned at her nine month appointment but when she started refusing her bottles I reached out to the doctor. She asked me if she had been moving up in her clothing size or diaper size and I told her she still wearing six month clothes and size 2 diapers. We are going in for a weight check next Monday.

She's so cute! And sounds exactly like my daughter! She is 10 months today and maybe 17 pounds. She is gaining slowly but on her curve so the doctor isn't worried. She also eats every single thing we give her. Is your doctor worried? Mine said unless she takes a serious dive off her growth curve, it's fine. It's weird because at this age my son was picky but weighed almost 22 pounds!!

My 9.5 mo old daughter LOVES food! But she is not gaining weight. She has been hovering around 16 pounds for about a month (born at 6.7 oz.). She is considered in the 14th percentile for weight but 96th percentile for height! She has NEVER been a huge milk drinker (is FF) and was diagnosed as a Happy Spitter at 2 weeks old. That has finally slowed down UNLESS I try pushing too many ounces in a day. I am lucky if she drinks 18 oz a day--usually its around 16 oz. She does eat 3 meals a day and will eat anything. We do baby led weaning and hasn't had "baby food" since turning 7.5 months and spits up less than 3 times a day now. I am adding in healthy fats like peanut butter and avocados. She started crawling 3 days before turning 9 months old and is pulling up and cruising some by holding onto furniture. She recently got her bottom 2 teeth and I originally thought that's why she might be refusing her bottle but it hasn't changed in over 2 weeks. At her 9 mo. well check, the Dr. felt she would be walking by her 1st birthday. She sleeps through the night (7 pm-6am) and takes two 1.5-2 hour naps a day (another reason I can't get in more formula as she is a great sleeper). She is energetic and a happy baby. I will type out her schedule below but can someone please encourage or offer positive advice for this worried mama??? She is my whole world!

**we aren't 100% sure if she might have some intolerance to dairy but when she does spit up now, its either because I have tried pushing more ounces of formula or heavy dairy items (yogurt--I have even tried soy and greek). She has been on Similac sensitive (after trying everything--including Alimentum) and they ruled out reflux when meds didn't do anything and nothing changed her "happy spitting"***

6:30 am- 1/2 cup of oatmeal or cream of wheat made with formula and peanut butter and sometimes 1/4 banana or mini pancakes and turkey sausage. We offer 1 oz of formula in a cup.

8:30- offer a 3 oz bottle---its 50/50 if she takes it or leaves about 1/2 oz

9:00-10:30 nap

11:00 about an oz of each: a meat, veggie and fruit (no pureed baby food) and a cup with 1 oz of formula in it

1:30 offer 3 oz and typically drinks it all

2:00-3:30 nap

3:30 2 oz formula and drinks all

5:00 about an ounce of each: a meat, fruit and veggie with cup of water (a few sips)

6:30 bath, story

6:45 6 oz bottle and typically takes it all

7:00pm-6:00am- sleeps
