I took mounjaro for about 6 months 2022-2023, I tolerated it well and had excellent results. I lost close to 30 pounds. I would have nausea and diarrhea here and there but nothing life altering. I think I only went up to 7.5mgs before getting pregnant and stopping.

My psychologist encouraged me to try it for many of the reasons you referenced. At 40 and after 3 kids I was stalled. It definitely was great but I struggled when/how/what would happen when I went off. I didn’t want to be on it long term. The pregnancy gave me an out, I am still up 10 pounds from that low point and still 40 pounds more than I should be. I don’t know what I will do when I am done breastfeeding.

Anecdotally, my sister has tried many of them, they all make her ill to the point of needing Zofran and I don’t know that it would be worth it to me if that was the case. Plus the supply issues for some of them are insane. I have another friend that has been on one for a few years and is very happy. It is a bit addicting once you start to see the results. I am completely torn on the topic as you can tell. I think it is worth a try if you are curious but just be prepared for side effects, insurance leg work and supply issues as mentioned above.

And be aware that it may jump start your fertility, we were hoping for a 4th so everything worked out but the stress of getting pregnant while on a medication was hard.

@yellowbeach how are you feeling on it? My sister saw better results with Mounjaro over Wegovy so she switched once Zepbound came out and it was covered by insurance but now she can’t get it.

@yellowbeach: I’d be curious to hear about your experience/perspective as a doctor. I’ve thought about it but am super hesitant to start something that doesn’t have an off ramp, especially since there are no long term studies that I’ve seen (and it’s a new drug so even observational evidence isn’t available in the long term). I’ve also gained about 60lbs over the course of 2 successful and 4 unsuccessful pregnancies.

@pachamama: no menopause signs yet… but I do think I’ve become less active as I’ve aged which clearly isn’t helping anything

@azbaby: you should start talking to your doctor about it now if you are interested… I think it took 6 months of meeting with my doctor and trying some alternative meds required by insurance to then make the decision to start… but then supply is so low that I couldn’t find any starter doses for another 6 months. Point being, put some feelers out now bc the process can be long.

Tangentially related... Do you have any signs of menopause by any chance? My weight was consistent for about 14 years and I went through menopause (prematurely at age 39) and BAM gained a bunch quickly. NOTHING I am doing is working. It sucks!!!

I'm thinking of doing it as well. My friend is on Semaglutide and is having great success on it. I'm looking into that as well. Like you after 13 years of IVF I've gained too much weight.

Just started Wegovy .25. I’ve gained 60 lbs in the last ten years, mostly after having IVF and all the hormones but this past year if you look at my weight chart, I’m gaining just like I did with my three pregnancies… but I’m not preggo. Just a busy mom with no time to care for myself.

I finally had a talk with my doctor and here we are. Goal is ~150 lbs and to feel more flexible, less old and achy, and to easily play on the floor with my kids at my age of 45.

Anyone else on Wegovy or another GLP-1?

I definitely held on to extra weight until I weaned (or actually until I got close to weaning - probably started losing some of the extra weight when I dropped down to 2 feedings a day and stopped pumping). From what I heard, most people lose the weight while breastfeeding, but some lucky people need the hormonal changes after weaning in order to lose the weight. I just accepted it, knowing that the weight would go eventually!

@rockinghorse: I couldn't lose the last 15 pounds until I fully weaned. It didn't just fall off after weaning (other than maybe the first 5), however, my body was (finally) responsive to my efforts to lose the weight.

I gained weight after weaning, unfortunately. I lost tons of weight while pumping because I was producing 40 ounces a day which is around 800 calories.
I'm working on losing the 15ish pounds I have gained in the past 6 months and I wish I could still pump out that many calories!

So I stopped completely with BF and pumping about 2-3 weeks ago (8 months PP). I was probably hovering around 153 lbs, and very disappointed that BF was not making me lose weight. Now, the last week or so, I have really not had much of an appetite and have lost about 8 pounds without trying. I started to panic a little, and I searched the dreaded Google, and found some articles and posts stating that sometimes women lose more weight AFTER weaning. Did this happen for any of you? I'm going to go with this and try to stop my brain from going other places.

@honeybear: @Mrs. Goose: Ya i'm not sure I buy in to it but I'm wiling to give it a try to see if it works for me. She does mean major source of protein, so don't mix nuts and seeds with yogurt, or lentils with beans, or soy with cheese. I find it's ok for stuff like soups and stir fries but other meals its tough. Tempeh and seitan are a good idea, thanks.

I'm skeptical of the premise, but I'd start by getting a higher protein yogurt. I don't really get how you would apply the "no mixing" rule. Grains have protein and some vegetables do too, does that mean you can't eat those at the same time as lentils?

Anyhow, two things that haven't been mentioned yet: tempeh and seitan. They'll be at a place like Whole Foods, if your regular store doesn't have them.

Tvp (texturized vegetable protein) comes in different sizes and shapes. Throw it into a pasta sauce or chili and it soaks up the liquid and resembles ground beef or bigger beef chunks. Disclaimer, the big chunks are chewy. My husband doesn't like them, but I love it as long as they have soaked up enough liquid. Greek yoghurt has lots of protein and comes in different degrees of milk fat content. Yellow and green split peas have lots of protein and iron so they're good in soups and stews and can be pureed for a nicer texture. You can throw tvp or split peas in a pasta sauce and then use that for pasta. Black bean (or any other type of bean) burgers. These can also be made with lentils instead. You can also make a bean paste (think like pate) with garlic and herbs and spread it on toast or crackers. It's delicious! I also use fake bacon to make an egg mcmuffin type sandwich with English muffins for breakfast.

Quinoa casseroles are good. There are a bunch of types on Pinterest. Nut loaf is good too with gravy on it or chilled and sliced in a sandwich with mustard (sort of like meat loaf I guess). You can make it with any type of nut(s) and mix it onions, garlic, herbs, and grated vegetables in it.
