@2PeasinaPod: Yeah, that's where I may end up. There just doesn't seem to be a good solution. They're 1 and 4.

@shabang: Are you all driving in together? I know it's a pain in the neck, but it's almost worth it to switch the car seat when your DH is driving vs. when he's not. We have a high back booster 5 pt harness for our 4.5 year old, and it's a Britax ClickTight. It's the simplest car seat to install and uninstall.

How old are each of your kiddos?

@travelingnanny: I recognize that you're not supposed to have anything besides car seats in the car, but I find this super impractical in reality. Trust me, we're much more likely to get into that accident when the driver (me) is distracted by a child screaming bloody murder in the back seat. We have an hour+ commute most days, so nursery rhymes and songs only last so long...

Looks like this Dad just wedged foam core like @chuckles: said. It wouldn't hurt the kids since its foam.

I saw something similar on FB.

It's a Bicker divider.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/195860290/bicker-barrier-car-seat-divider

Maybe you can ask the etsy seller to use a thicker fabric. Or ask them to put little pockets where you can insert a foam board.

This is not the answer you want to hear, but I wouldn't put anything because it can be super unsafe during an accident. I'm sure you have tried this already but I would distract the little one with a nursery rhyme or a new song on the radio.

Maybe one of those big foam core poster boards? You could make it fit right in the space between the front and backseat so that it would be really hard to move.

Anyone have any ingenious ways of separating kids when their car seats are right next to each other?

90% of the time, they play, but sometimes my youngest is frustrated and repeatedly pinches the oldest. I'm currently using a dry erase board wedged between them, but my youngest is learning how to move it out of the way. In my dream world, there would be a way to install a limo window between them, keep it down most of the time, and roll it up when necessary... any ideas for something more realistic?

Due to our drop off situation and a tall husband, I'm not able to move one of the seats behind the driver's side.
