I think it does just get harder because the baby starts more solids and sleeps longer. So as nature designs it the supply goes down.

@Weagle: ugh, same here. I was wondering if it's just me. My body is just not responding to the boob as well any more. It's crazy bc I can still feel there is milk in there but it just won't come out!

I'm still pumping once a day. I'm planning on stopping whenever LO really gets the hang of whole milk. And it's not going great. Some days I get 3 oz, some days I get 1. Luckily, I have a stash built up.

My supply is dropping, dropping and I'm down to 1 because of lack of supply. :(

My 13 month old has gotten a little more picky toward veggies but still really likes meats. I think he is going through a bit of an appetite decrease. I don't think this is uncommon at 1 yr to slow down on eating. So maybe your LO is just not quite as hungry as before which could result on just wanting to eat the stuff he most prefers. They start thinning out and then going through growth spurts alternatively at this age, we experienced this too with DD.

I'm trying to figure out a first birthday gift for a boy. He has an older brother, so they already have a lot of stuff, and they live in an NYC apartment (and therefore it shouldn't be anything huge). Any brilliant ideas?

We had a food set back at about 14 months old when he had a bunch of teeth coming in. We did a lot of frozen food and smoothies (cold again). He has come back to being a really good eater again.

One thing that helped was letting him eat while running around. So lots of snacky foods. We would give him freeze dried peas for veggies and veggie sticks. It wasn't the best habits but at least he was eating which was more important for us. We also would take his left overs and put them in a container for the next meal.

And sometimes he ate more if they were cut up really small.

Help!

We did a mix of purees and BLW with Baby X, and until recently he has been a great eater. He was basically done with purees around 8.5 months, and until recently, he'd eat huge quantities of whatever I plopped on his tray. Textures didn't bother him and he would eat anything. But for the last 2.5 weeks, he has become an incredibly picky eater. I'm not sure what to do... I don't want to over-think it, but if this keeps up, I'm worried that he won't be getting the nutrition he needs. I think some of this is related to teething, (his canines are coming in), which we can wait out. But that doesn't seem to be the only thing going on. A lot of the advice I'm seeing applies to older kids, not young toddlers. So how would you deal with a picky one year old?

not sure when you say 'a bit more' where that puts your price point. but a few ideas for you =)

fisher price laugh and learn kitchen is cute for that age and only like $35

http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Laugh-Learn-Learning-Kitchen/dp/B00388C3C4/ref=sr_1_166?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1349808244&sr=1-166

babies love having their own sized chair to climb in and out of! these ones are great 'cause they're hard to flip over & they're not super babyish. or pottery barn makes nice ones

http://www.amazon.com/PKolino-Little-Reader-Chair-Green/dp/B0018M0V6C/ref=sr_1_8?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1349808575&sr=1-8&keywords=chair

like @artbee i was going to recommend something along the lines of a year pass to a children's museum or aquarium. i'm sure she will get a ton of toys, and none of them will hold her attention very long at that age. a year of trips to a museum or park would be nice, as the parents would be able to watch her experiences change as she grows throughout the year.

My LO got a TON of toys and clothes for her first birthday. My favorite gifts for her were themed gifts with practical things, like a beach/pool themed gift basket which included swim suit, swim diapers, sun screen, sun glasses, beach toys, towel, etc.

It might also be nice to get them an experience gift, like a ticket to the zoo or a childrens museum, and you could always give a little toy to go with it.

Can anyone please share some great gift ideas for a 1 year old girl? She has an older sister (by maybe 1-2 years) so I'm thinking she probably has the well-known toys and books for that age group.

P. S. She is the daughter of hubs' college friend, so we're willing to spend a bit more than one might on, say, a friend/acquaintance of LO's...if that helps. Thanks!

Add in the formula during the day, or maybe try to increase the amount of calories LO is getting from solids during the day? Several of the books I have recommend feeding plenty during the day in order to gradually phase out the night feeds. There's no point wearing yourself out. Could you try cooled boiled water then in a bottle for one of the night wakes, once you increase the day feeds so that you're sure the night waking is for comfort and not true hunger?
Fair play to you for getting as far as you have. You don't need to suffer with it! Do what you can, not what you feel you ought to.

I'm still pregnant so I can't give a lot of advice..... but you've definitely got some really good suggestions here. I just want to add, because I think it's important for you to hear it, don't feel guilty if you decide you can't continue. As many have said your baby has already received the best benefits of breastfeeding already. And at a certain point your mental health is just as important as the benefits of breastfeeding are to your baby. So don't feel like you don't have an option to stop before a year if it's what YOU need in order to be happy.

Wow! I think you're doing pretty awesome to have been BF for that long! I've only been at it for 11 days and I find it extremely trying and discouraging at times. I don't have any advice for you, but just wanted to say that I think you are doing amazing for have kept up as long as you have! :)

Daycare sickness is hard, you're not exposed to the same germies at the same time as her so you're not actively making immune responses to those germies. But now that she's sick you've been exposed to those germies and you might be producing antibodies to them now that will pass through the breast milk. So breastfeeding can still help even if it didn't prevent the sickness in the first place.

It is a ton of work, but maybe have husband give a bottle of pumped milk at night or just comfort instead of feeding for part of the night.

Best wishes!
