@Portboston: I'm pretty sure not. There was a 5 month break with zero symptoms despite sex, travel, periods, etc that you'd think would flare it up if it never truly went away.

Is it possible it's the same infection that never truly went away? Went I get them, monistat doesn't work for me at all. I have to use diflucan otherwise the infection will just linger or seem to go away but return quickly there after.

I am still trying to treat this newest one with Monistat so hopefully that will be enough to clear it up.

I already wear cotton underwear and have been sleeping without it at night when anything seems to flare up.

@Mrs.KMM: Did your provider call in a prescription forDiflucan? I've had them so often that Diflucan is the only thing that really works. I also started wearing all cotton underwear, not wearing any at night, and I also go commando in my exercise gear (capris and things that have the attached undies) and it helps a lot too.

@Me3: I actually went to my OB for the first one since Monistat didn't clear it. So she tested and confirmed that it was just a really bad yeast infection. I've been taking a probiotic that my OB suggested when she treated me for the first one.

I had a different issue (recurring bacterial infection each month with my cycle) post pregnancy, but it was definitely due to a change in my natural flora/fauna. My first OBGYN treated it like a yeast infection because he didn't know what it was, but it kept coming back. If you think you might have something similar, wall me your email address and we can talk more. It's a little private so I don't want to share details here. If you're positive it's a yeast infection, you might want to try some feminine probiotics. There are a few that are supposed to be helpful specifically with vaginal flora/fauna. Hope you are feeling better soon! My issue went on for a long time and was such a huge pain.

Thanks everyone!

The doctor just called to suggest we try a mix of Lotrimin and bacitracin so I'm going to do that, along with coconut oil (which others have suggested). The doctor also suggested switching to soy formula to rule out a dairy allergy, which I'm more hesitant to try along with everything else in case there's a soy allergy too, but I guess it's worth a shot. I just assumed she'd have more symptoms if it was food related, but maybe not. I'll try anything at this point!

I don't have any ideas about allergies, although I think it's worth getting her tested, but re: the rash itself - have you tried coconut oil? DD has a terrible yeast diaper rash recently and none of the medicated yeast treatments did anything. Coconut oil at every diaper change cleared it up in a matter of days...

Hi Everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster :)

My 6 month old daughter has had a rash for going on 3 weeks. She has had a yeast rash around her neck and chest from drool in the past and Nystatin was able to very slowly clear that up. This time, the rash is all over her body--neck, chest, arms, legs, back, and now her face. The only area it doesn't seem to be reaching is her diaper area. Our pediatrician believes it looks like yeast to her, albeit a pretty bad case, and has prescribed Nystatin--the ointment and powder--and an oral Diflucan. So far, nothing has worked and it's only gotten worse. It doesn't seem to bother her too much though and no fever or any other symptoms.

We have an appointment with a pediatric dermatologist next week but I'm wondering if any of you have experienced a rash like this, what was causing it (ie. could it be a milk/food/detergent allergy thing?), and what you used to get rid of it. Any suggestions would be helpful!

@luckypenny: sorry :-( DD used to get nasty ones with each round of antibiotics (w/ blisters). We put Lotramin in her 3x/day and cover it with a thick diaper cream (usually Triple Paste) and we gave her as much diaper free time as we could. It would look significantly better in a couple days.

@luckypenny: Our yeast diaper rash responded well to sun/diaper free time and a 3 layer mix of generic monistat gel/ cortisone cream/ boudreaux's natural zinc oxide (pediatrician recommendation). Lotrimin did not work on our yeast. He was in disposables when we applied that 3X a day and then I disinfected our cloth with grapefruit seed extract for 2 weeks.

I'd check if your zinc cream has cornstarch in it (allegedly it feeds the yeast) and maybe try adding some sunshine?

Sorry you're going through this! We dealt with a yeast rash for all of May. First I used Nystatin and Butt Paste. It went away after a few days, then came back. Then the Dr. added in hydrocortisone. Didn't really see a change, so she finally added an antibiotic cream. Knock wood, that seemed to have done the trick. She also said stop the Butt Paste and switch to Aquaphor. I hated using all those medications at once but the combo finally helped. Good luck!!

@lolabee: For my dipes I first turned my water heater up, then did an apple cider vinegar soak followed by a regular hot wash (did another full hot wash instead of a cold rinse), then dried in the dry on hot. THEN I repeated the acv soak but followed by stripping the dipes instead of a regular soap wash, & then sunned them. I read that you can use tto BUT to get the dilution you need to really "treat" yeast you'd have to put a ton so I just went the acv, hot water, & hot dry/sunning way.

For the probiotic, I got a liquid kind (don't remember the brand) & gave P 1 ml a few times a day via syringe. Tbh I stopped using it early bc she had/has a dairy & soy intolerance & at the time I couldn't find one that wasn't cultured in either dairy or soy. I do know they make pedi probiotics too though... I think Target carries them!

And I didn't try nystatin so I don't know much about it but I'd think even a small spray bottle with water & 5+ drops of tto would work & that's natural.... You may google for a specific dilution.

@runsyellowlites: Ahhh thank you! This sounds very helpful! I forgot to add that I do baking soda baths and have added some into the water bottle we use for diaper changes. A couple questions...

How did you treat your dipes initially/every wash?
I've been wondering about giving him a probiotic...I boosted my intake to 4 a day in hope it would help him too. How much did you give to P? Did you just rub it on her gums?
Did you use any certain brand of diapers in the interim?

I will admit I didn't use the Nystatin for very long...I was uber freaked out about the contraindications. There's gotta be a better treatment than steroids I figured..
