Thank you all for the helpful remarks. I'm going to shoot for 2-3 times per week most weeks, I think. Maybe someday I'll graduate to being competent enough to do yoga on my own...but I definitely find the class setting enjoyable.

I usually practice 5 days a week. Ideally I'd do weekends too but those days are for other things

I practice at home as there aren't many class options available in my area & it just doesn't work for me right now. I enjoy it but I would definitely be capable of more if I went to a class

I got to prenatal yoga once a week and practice at home at least once a day. If my days are busy or I'm not feeling too well (like today), I just take the day off or do small meditation.

There are only so many hours I have to spend at the gym so the bulk of that is spent on cardio. I try to make time for yoga at least once a week.

Ideally every day. Right now it's sporadic, whenever I have hip/knee pain I do it often, but when I don't it's about once or twice a month.

I would ideally go to a class once a week or once every two weeks and then practice daily at home.

I don't have the discipline to make myself do it outside a formal class setting. I go to classes on both my days off, but, my work schedule isn't really compatible with the classes at any local studios on my working days. I wish I could go one additional day per week. I'm trying to psych myself up to become a regular drop-in at a Wednesday or Thursday class on weeks when I get off work in time.

Ideally once a week. I get bored really easily with exercise so variety is key for me to keep it up. So basically my ideal is to do a weekly combo of a yoga class, going for a run once or twice, doing workout videos at home, and going to the gym. I actually love my yoga studio and could probably go more times in a week, but it's expensive. All the other things are free :-)

@FliegepilzHut: Whoa that's more expensive than I remember, but I bought mine 8 years ago and it's still going strong. Think of it as a long term investment if you're really into yoga!

It's cheaper on Amazon! http://www.amazon.com/Yogitoes-Skidless-Groovy-Towel-Springburst/dp/B002TMYFWQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1410281529&sr=8-2&keywords=yogitoes

So, while I'm thinking about this...I've got (and may keep) a monthly "unlimited" membership to a local yoga studio. There are about 5 or 6 different classes per day...and on weeks where I can actually go, I should be fairly free to go to a class morning, mid-day, or occasionally evening. That said, what do you think is the ideal number of practices per week? How often do you practice?

Does it make a difference whether you practice alone or in a class setting? I'm still learning...I wouldn't feel "safe" pushing any envelopes without a teacher to help guide me.

Once a month or so but I'm overdue for a new mat. My Gaiam mat never really cleans right? There are still stains from when I practiced outdoors over a year ago and they won't go away no matter what I try. My other mat cleans just fine but it's so worn out from a year and a half of practice.

Thank you all for the answers (and honesty!). I guess I'll just wash it when it gets grimy...which, in direct contact with feet, hands, and face...and sweat (during a Flow class) may be pretty soon.

@Mrs. High Heels: Does the towel allow enough "grip"? If so, that seems like a great solution!

I have never washed mine! Last time I went to a yoga class (before LO was born), I do remember feeling slightly embarrassed at the state of it - a few coffee stains from early morning yoga and lots of claw marks where the cat used to join in!

I used to do hot yoga a ton. Now, not so much. I have no time between work and DD. My gear is regular yoga mat, plus special no-skid yoga towel, and a giant water bottle. I usually wear spandex capris, a sport bra, and a breathable tank. Also, a headband to keep hair and sweat out of my eyes was really helpful.
