Okay, I went back and read some of my posts and there were a ton of awesome bottle recommendations, like tommee tippee, the joovy bottle, that are supposed to mimic the breast. I've also heard Medela has one, I think it's called the Lactina?

I thought a lot about my breastfeeding goals and what I would be happy with. At one point, DH was giving LO a bottle of formula at his late evening feeding and I was getting a solid 6-7 hours of sleep. Sure it was formula, but taking that step back really helped me regroup and give it one more go.

LO's issue wasn't outright refusing to latch, he was just used to bottles, preferred them, and had to really work at it to get used to nursing. He had a really hard time getting full (we had to have his tongue tie corrected too). He, at one point, had to nurse for an hour to transfer enough and he just didn't have the energy or the desire because the bottle was so much easier.

I didn't believe it when everyone told me this, but it does get easier. You will get there and it'll be worth it.

Just another thought but I know @septemberlove: had success getting her LO back to the breast after being bottle fed for a while? Maybe she could chime and offer some advice?

I'm sorry this has been such a challenging journey this far! A got his tongue tie and lip tie clipped at 7 days but didn't successfully breastfeed until 20 days. We pumped and bottle fed until then. So, it's definitely possible. Just keep trying and when you get frustrated, or he does, stop. And then try again at a better time.

Have you tried seeing a chiropractor? Ours was able to release his jaw and fix any issues with his upper spine where he preferred turning his head one particular way. I recommend an assessment for sure!

Best of luck. You are a trooper.

http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/child/back-to-breast/

Have you checked or the Kellymom info on nursing strikes?

Generally speaking a newborn who won't nurse can't so maybe rule out an ear infection or a physical problem like a sore neck etc. try lots of skin to skin or nursing in the bath and baby will often nurse better right before and after sleep when they're less inclined to think about what they're doing! Also try lots of different positions and try to keep it casual (I know this is difficult when you're stressed and upset!)

I definitely think a visit with an IBCLC is a great idea and if that's not an option is there a local LLL you can get in touch with?

Hang in there Mama, you guys are doing great and this too shall pass!

LO has always preferred the bottle, but we've been nursing for almost 8 months now. There are times when she refuses and times when she is more interested. Just keep offering as often as you can, and try to go into the nursing sessions with a happy, positive attitude. I really think our babies can pick up on it when we are miserable. We had LCs at our hospital that we could make free appointments with if we needed. I went weekly in the beginning. Is that something you can do? I'd definitely continue seeing an LC as often as you can.

The opposite happened to me both times. :( My kids each went on bottle strike at 2 months old. I couldn't go out and away from DD for more than 3 hours for over a year and haven't been away from DS for long either.

I don't have any advice, but I would see a LC asap if you can't get your DS to nurse.

Good luck!

DS (who is one-month-old) has been on a nursing strike for about a week now. We have had a ton of BFing issues from the start and the LC suggested we see an ENT for a possible tongue tie. In the meantime, she suggested I just pump and bottle feed to give my nipples a chance to heal.

We saw the ENT today and he did have a tongue tie as well as a lip tie. We had both corrected. I was desperately hoping that this would help our issues but he still refuses to nurse.

I was able to get him to nurse briefly on one side on two occasions today, both of which were in between feedings. Both of which also began and ended with a screaming baby. He is getting milk because I can hear him swallow. He won't even attempt on my left side.

I am at a complete loss. This BFing journey has me emotionally drained. I just don't know what to do.

Has anyone else successfully brought a baby back to the breast when he prefers bottles? Please tell me this can be done. I am going to be heartbroken if I have to stop completely.
