@lemondrop: I totally forgot about the singles thing! I had chicken pox as a child and got singles two years ago. The rash itself was small and didn't crust or anything, just a few red bumps, but the nerve pain was excruciating. Because I didn't know what it was and took almost a week to get diagnosed, the anti virals didn't do much and I had chronic pain for over a year. Not fun as a first time nursing mama. The rash was right by my breast too so I was constantly worried about exposure to the baby!

@irene: I know, we avoid taking him to the pediatrician as much as possible. Thankfully as they get older the visits are less frequent. But considering your lo just started at daycare it's probably just from exposure to all the new gems. Wagon Jr was sick for six months straight it seems! But this winter all he's had is a runny nose and one 12 hr fever. It really strengthened his immune system, I believe. Also, breastmilk only helps with immunity if it's fresh, because as you are exposed to the same gems that he's exposed to, your antibodies get passed to him. So milk that you froze in the past won't help much.

Glad to hear he's doing better and hope he stays well!! So sad when they are just constantly sick :-(

@mrs. wagon: Sometimes I wonder if all those "well visits" are ways for the pediatricians to guarantee sick visits (so they will stay in business!). I even told the doctor because there would be 2-3 sick visits after a well visit for us every time.

@lemondrop: I feel so much better after hearing your experience. It ended up he had a fever on and off for a whole week. I took him in on Friday to the doc anyway (he was sort of having a mild fever of 99-100.4 on and off between thursday and friday) just to make sure, but then he got 102.5 that friday night. His fever is sort of gone now (last night before bed it was 100.4, and this morning was 98). I hope it stays away for good.

It is cold after cold for us too. My 10 months worth of breastmilk seems useless to build up his immunity system. We just started daycare 4 weeks ago so I can't really put my finger on it yet. I hope it is not the daycare because I really love the daycare.

@NaturallyCathy: I had shingles as a teenager too, it was just on a patch on one side of my back so it wasn't horrible but def not fun. My mom had shingles in elementary school though. Def helped make the decision to get the vaccine a little easier for us.

@NaturallyCathy: OMG, that sounds awful! My friend had it at 28 years old. Definitely not an old person virus like I'd originally thought!

I swear, right now it seems to be cold after cold. Ugh, maybe it's that he is getting less breastmilk, or the time of year, or the age, or all factor in- but he seems to be sick all the time lately! I'm grateful that it isn't anything worse so far, but I'm tired of him being sick so often.

@lemondrop: I actually had a pediatric case of shingles, if you can believe that. They are super not fun when you're a pre-teen, let me tell you. LO hasn't had his one year vaccines yet but that's because I delayed them since he's already fussing right now for a reason unknown to me... It'll be interesting to see if he develops these symptoms next week!

Mine had a fever similar to what you described. I can't 100% blame the vaccine since he caught a cold/cough shortly after to from elsewhere too. My big pro for the vaccine is avoiding Shingles later in life. I know several people who have had it, and it sounds horrible! One friend still has flare ups of nerve pain when he gets stressed.

@irene: every time WJ goes in for one of his regular checkups he comes down with a fever the next day. Stinkin germs all over the doctor's office, even though I religiously purell everyone all over. Can't stop those airborne germs I guess. Luckily he's got the daycare immune system so he gets over those illnesses really quickly now that he's 3. But back when he was 1... :( :( :( sucked. Hope your little guy feels better SOON!!!

@Thehistoryofus: Oh you can decline a vaccine?

I am just so frustrated because he's been sick a lot already, and we take him in for these "well visits" only to get him more sick afterwards. It sucks.

Sorry, my LO has gotten fevers with her shots but usually just for 24 hours. We declined the chicken pox vaccine so I can't speak to that reaction.

Wagon Jr. did not have any reaction to the chicken pox vaccine. He had plenty of cold symptoms and fevers around that time since it was winter and that's the age it started for him (he stopped getting my antibodies in my breastmilk).

Just thought I'd ask - for those of you who had the 1 year old shots adminstered, do your LO developed a fever (and / or rash), how soon did he/she get it since the shots, how high it was , and how long did it last?

LO had his 1-year old shots last Friday, and developed a fever since Sunday afternoon (102-103!). Last night before he went to bed he was around 101.5. Today is the 5th day and he still has a 100.4 fever before I gave him Advil. He also has localized rash developed. We went in to see the doc on Monday and he didn't have strap throat, bronchitis or ear infection. He does have a pretty bad cold though. Doc said if he still has a fever tomorrow then I have to take him in to check to make sure again...

I am just so upset I thought chicken pox vaccine is given so that they don't have to go through chicken pox! But now the duration of it is almost the same as having real chicken pox (although I am sure it is much less severe).

So I thought I'd see what your experience is/was....
