@theknest: yes. I didn't want to have to deal with warming it up, especially when out and about so I thought id try cold to see how she did. And I was sooooooo sick of washing bottles so I just wanted to be done with that.

Of course if she wasn't ready we would have stayed with the bottles a little longer, but she took to milk in sippys just fine. Good luck!

We went cold turkey and my LO did fine with it. The first day she was kind of like what is this milk, I'm not so sure, and only drank a few sips from the sippy so I did get worried and thought that I'd have to go back to a slower transition. But I decided to give it one more day and the next day she gulped it all down.

@andrea, @looch - good idea on only transitioning one thing at a time. I think I will just focus on the milk first and then hopefully get rid of the bottle later. Thanks for the help.

@theknest: I'll be honest, at a year, my son was drinking only about 12 ounces of formula (I believe the AAP recommends 16 ounces) and I wanted to make sure he was drinking as much as possible, so I didn't want to transition too many things at once. He still doesn't reliably drink milk from a sippy, even at 21 months.

I agree with @Looch. We only wanted to transition one thing at a time so we kept the bottles for a while longer. We also had to get DD used to cold whole milk vs. warmed up formula. DD transitioned easily to whole milk but getting her to drink enough out of a sippy was an entirely different project. We ultimately switched from the bottle to straw cups because she just wouldn't drink whole milk out of a sippy.

@Looch - true, but don't "they" recommend to get rid of bottles by age 1 or shortly there after?

We go to our ped. tomorrow, so I'll see what he says...but just curious about this new stage.

We have cut back the number of bottles and replaced those with sippies of WCM. We tested it and she's fine with the taste of WCM so for us it was more a transition away from the bottle.

You don't have to cut out the bottles at the transition to cows milk. Just do quarter/half/whole combinations for a few days each and you've transitioned to cows milk (to make your life easier).

My little guy turned 1 this weekend. He’s been on formula for the last 6 months. I’m not really sure how to transition to whole cow’s milk (or alternative milk). What have you all done? Did you go cold turkey, cut down the number of bottles…? He drinks good out of a sippy cup, but obviously not like a bottle. I’m worried he won’t drink enough milk in a day if we cut out his bottles.
