We went through something similar for a few days around 10 months. We don't have a video monitor so it was hard to tell what was going on at first, but I managed to sneak in her room undetected a couple of times and realised that she was screaming as she was burrowing down in her cot and snuggling her lovey. I had thought she was standing up and screaming, but nope, she was just getting comfortable for the night - I think it was just her way of releasing excess energy before going to sleep for the night. It passed after a few days and now she is back to chatting to herself, with a little intermittent fuss here and there as she goes off to sleep. She is 11.5 months now.

Similar to what @Foodnerd81: describes...my daughter (16 months) goes through the odd few days/week of crying at bedtime probably every couple of months. We remain consistent and leave her to it. It passes pretty quick. I remember around 10 months it seemed particularly bad as she was working on crawling.

@Mrs. Champagne: too late to edit but realized I wrote 28 months- she is almost 18 months. Doesn't really change anything to my point though.

At 3.5 months, he always cries/screams when putting down for naps, but not bedtime. If it lasts more than 10 minutes, I get him up and try the nap 30 min to an hour later. I hope this ends sometime.

Mine did this around 13-14 months. It was so weird. I'd put her in her crib, she'd scream bloody murder for exactly 2 min and then fall asleep.

5 minutes? Meh....excess, pent up energy? E goes through this sometimes but it doesn't last very long! A few days or something....then it stops!

@Foodnerd81: same. We just went through one at 14 months. I never know what causes it but it always stops as suddenly as it starts. But it sucks, so I feel for you.

@twodoghouse: thanks for chiming in :)
Seems to be only sleep related. He's fine when he's on his back for other things like playing or diaper changes and he's been super happy lately so I don't think it's his ears. He has a doc appt this week though so I'll ask.

@Foodnerd81: oh I'm sorry you just had a week like this. So rough. Hopefully he gets over this quick!

Could it be separation anxiety? Does he have issues when you leave him other times, or is it only sleep related? Could he have an ear infection? Maybe laying down is painful?

Yes, we've had spurts like this. Normal for her is to roll around for a few minutes and go to sleep, but every once in a while she will have a few days to a week or more where she screams when I put her down. Like your LO, staying with her just prolongs the crying and she falls asleep faster if we leave her alone to cry but I hate it! The good news is it usually lasts less than a week and then she gradually goes back to normal. She's almost 28 months and we just had one of those weeks.

Anyone else have a LO that went through this kind of thing? For every nap and bedtime DS would sometimes chatter for a minute or two and then be out like a light. For the past week or so he SCREAMS until he falls asleep for every single nap and at night. We just leave him because he eventually falls asleep and if we go in he loses his mind. Usually it lasts for up to 5 minutes.

Any advice? I feel so bad. He pretty much starts to cry as soon as we lie him down and begin putting his sleep sack on. His naps have also gone back to 30 mins :(
