We did swing naps up until 4 months old and still do them on occasion, but we used the crib for night time sleep. I was also worried about transitioning baby to the crib for naps, so started off just with one of his naps in there a day and worked our way up. At 5 months he takes most of his naps in the crib and they are at least an hour. Just some encouragement if you are worried about the swing.

We went through the 30 minute wake up session for a bit. I was told it's them transitioning from light sleep to a deep sleep and eventually they learn to self soothe back to sleep (which it sounds like your LO does sometimes already!).

@DillonLion: RnP! He's napped for a long time in our neighbours swing when I've been there during nap time. I don't have one though.. and I'm nervous about getting one and then him only sleeping there.. he's a great night sleeper.

Today has been 30 minute naps again. Like literally right to the minute his eyes fly open.. wahhh! I need a longer break! :crying:

Where is baby napping? I always extended the time by having her nap in motion, in a swing, in the car, etc.

Same here, my DD is almost 6 months and has been napping 30min max since 3ish months. Occasionally, she will go longer, but the VAST majority of the time it's 30min, you can set your watch to it!

Yup. Mine did 35 min. I didn't try to extend her naps though, it just drove me crazy. She kept it up until 5.5 months.

I think this is pretty common, my LO did this for a while too and so did some of my friends kids. From the sleep books I've read, it seem like day sleep and night sleep are pretty different. There is something in their sleep cycle that happens at 30 mins that wakes them up. Things that might help him get through the 30 mins: constant motion (swing, stroller, car), sleeping in a dark room, white noise. Hope it gets better for you soon! 30 mins is just not a long enough break!

We had the awful 30 minute naps until 4 months. I was soooo obsessed with looking for sleepy signs and making sure he got enough sleep throughout the day so I put him down every time he looked tired and he would only sleep for 30 minutes. At 4 months I purposely lengthened the time between wakeup and naps to 1.5-2 hours and his naps lengthened too. He just wasn't tired enough to sleep longer but was angry because he was still kinda sleepy...confusing, I know!

My daughter did this, too, and when she was a little older (3ish months?) I decided to nap train her. But at 10 weeks, I just catered to her and helped her nap.

Totally normal - DS was a 30 minute napper for a long time. Eventually, they got to 45 minutes and they got longer around 8-9 months.

@Foodnerd81: well he is napping now so I had a quick shower then went to watch him at the 30 minute mark. Be spit his soother out and his eyes started fluttering. I rocked the RnP for about 5 minutes total and he's back asleep. It's almost been an hour now. I'm wondering if he goes through some sort of transition into a deeper sleep at 30 mins or something. I don't think it has to do with the soother because sometimes he doesn't have it at all or sometimes he spots it out right after he falls asleep.

My friend has a swing and when he naps in that when I'm at her place he can nap for 2 hours!

C's sleep cycle was 38 minutes. I could set a clock by it at that age. So frustrating but at least I eventually knew what to expect- like go eat and shower and get dressed NOW- you have 38 minutes on the clock!

Teething and sleep regressions aside, she is actually a great napper now, usually 1.5 hours in the morning, 1 hour in the afternoon. She fell into that pattern a few months ago, maybe about 7 months old.

I've read some things that suggest going and being ready to sooth her at the first stir- like literally watch her and the second she moves, rub her back, rock her, whatever works, to try not to let her wake up. Never worked for me though.

Yup! I had a chronic cat napper and 30 minutes was her usual nap length. Nothing I did could help her to sleep longer so I wound up putting her down for 5-6 naps per day (she got SO grumpy when she was tired). I would either put her down at the first sign of tiredness or one hour after she woke up, whichever came first. It helped us get through the early months, until she could handle more awake time. Now, at 10 months, she's still a terrible napper.

My 11wo is not a great napper, but he goes back to sleep after night feedings with no problem. I find that the only way he really naps for a long time during the day is if either we are out and he sleeps in his infant seat, or if I nap with him.

I am going to try putting curtains up in his room. It's very sunny in there, and the shades let a lot of light through.

A is 10 weeks old and lately exactly 30 minutes into his nap he wakes up screaming! As soon as I go over he calms down by rarely falls back asleep. DH rocked him in the RnP yesterday when he woke up and after about 15 minutes of rocking he fell back asleep and slept for another hour!

Anyone else experience this? He doesn't do it at bedtime or after his 4am feed... Just naps!
