I do translation and it’s a field where a large majority of people WAH/remotely. Your job sounds like something that could convert to a remote position fairly easily. I would ask about it at work and see if there are any opportunities, or ask about doing it 2-3 days a week to start. Most of them originally worked in the office and moved away and we retained them. I'm at 80% telework normally, but am on 100% now. I have several coworkers who are 100% telework. I honestly love it. My boss asked if I wanted a desirable cubicle and come in 4 days a week. I literally replied "LOL. My windows at home are bigger and I get to wear leggings". But the way it worked for him (similar to @JCCovi) is that we moved back to our hometown when I got a job there, and his company allowed him to continue to work for them remotely. I’m also only part time, although the company would probably be fine with me going full time. He’s in real estate finance. I’m worried he will be too isolated here- I’m home with the kids but have established a network of friends so we usually go out and see people every day. He will be alone in his office working every day. But he also travels at least a week a month. He sees pros and cons- especially not having any commuting costs. I’m also worried about the line between work life and home life being blurred even more. </p> <p>But he is only being given the chance to work from home all the time because he has been at the company for many years. I work in the healthcare/pharmaceuticals industry, and most of the big companies that I know in this industry provide telecommute options. I started off not telecommuting, then after proving myself for 6 months it turned into telecommuting 2x a week.. and now I do it full-time. Aetna, Humana, UHG, etc. as far as I know all have it as an option for a good chunk of their workforce. I work from a satellite location three days a week and it's great, but the arrangement occurred because of my skill/expertise and long work history with the company.</p> <p>If you asked, what do you think they'd say? Are they set up to accommodate it? I feel like there are still some people around that really value face time and just haven't gotten on board with a decentralized model yet. I wanted to telecommute 1-2 days max.. but lately I've had a change of heart.
