Things have gotten worse over the last 24 hrs and my once eager eater of foods has barely eaten anything! While it could be teething (as no other symptoms of illness are obvious), think I'll take her to the Dr. in the morning. Thanks ladies!! I just want the best for my girlie!

My son was super similar. His average was 19oz a day before weaning and it was a struggle to get him to drink anything. I'm pretty sure the doctor said the minimum was like 9oz for hydration? I would add lots of fruit too to get the hydration in. We also added powdered milk to milk and to some food to add more calories...

@nugget16: I don't think mine drank that much! I think just keep offering through out the day. I got mine into the habit of drinking ~8 oz morning and night (cows milk) so the habit is there still at 2.5. I make sure there is always water around and always offered it. Maybe get a few fun sippy/straw cups?

My pediatrician told me once they turned 1, they really only need like 8oz of milk a day and some water for hydration purposes. I just gave my kids some yogurt if I felt like they were a little low on milk for the day.

DS2 is 12 months and he drinks maybe 12-14oz of formula right now out of a straw cup? And mostly just in the morning and before bed. I just leave a water bottle out and he drinks out of it during the day when he wants to and we offer straw cups of milk at meals but he's usually not into it.

DS1 was pretty much the same, except he drank even less milk.

Both my boys are super healthy, long and tall and lean kids.

@nugget16: not much. It took her awhile to get the hang of liquids, water or milk, in a cup.

@snowjewelz: Any suggestions or advice on how to make sure she's getting enough to drink if she's not getting a set amount of formula that I can monitor in a day? Thanks for the encouragement!

@hellobeeboston: That is very encouraging to hear! So far we have not found a food that she will turn down LOL! I just want to make sure she doesn't get dehydrated and that she's getting plenty of fluids! I try not to be such a stickler on with the Internet recommends but I also want to do what's best for her!

@Smurfette: Do you have an idea on how much fluid your child took throughout the day when she gave up her bottles? Tessa has never been a big drinker and this is one thing I never thought I would worry over as a new mom!

Thank you all so much! I just keep reading that children should be getting between 40 and 44 ounces of fluid a day and I'm confused by How I can get that in her?? Do your children drink that much? Yes, I always give her access to a cup of water throughout the day and offer her the bottle several times even if she doesn't initially want it. Since 6 AM this morning until now, she has only had 7 1/2 ounces of milk at about 2 ounces of water. However she is happy and took two great naps for me. And she ate her breakfast and lunch just fine! 3 wet diapers and 1 BM since 7 am. Would love feedback on your thoughts for getting the recommended fluid in her? She eats plenty of fruits and vegetables that have a high water content and them. Thanks!!

LO1 stopped drinking her day time bottles around 11.5 months. She would drink the am and pm but otherwise she just wanted food. We just went with it. Then once she turned 1, we dropped the am and pm bottles.

Sounds like plenty of milk for almost 1, if she's eating 3 meals a day.

My little guy wasn't a big drinker either, maybe 12oz during the day when I was gone from him if we were lucky. He wouldn't even take a bottle until 8 months old, we started him on oatmeal early to get more calories in him since he was on the smaller side... Anyway - once he started eating meals full time he shot up the growth chart. ;)

I wouldn't be worried. Both my kids were EBF so I have no idea how much they ever drank, but if she's eating solid food, meeting milestones, seems happy, has consistent access to drinks, and has wet and dirty diapers I don't think you have anything to stress about.

My 11 mo old has never been a big drinker--25 oz at peak! But in the last 2 weeks she's been "weaning" herself from her formula bottle and we are lucky if she gets 12-14 oz of fluid a day (aside from what's in food). She will drink water and will do a sippy cup but only as sipping. She will spit up if she overeats or drinks too much. She's 11 mo today and is SSTN, taking 2 naps, walking independently and seems happy! I weighed her at home and she's gained roughly 2.5 lbs since her 9 mo well check and she's taller than her 2 other 11 and 14 mo old playmates. Should I be concerned?? I do offer cheese and yogurt (not a huge fan of yogurt) and she eats 3 decent meals of all table food a day (a protein, fruit and veggie at almost every meal and occasionally a carb like toast or oatmeal).
Any advice or reassurance would be welcomed!! (Pic included as reference of her size and normal disposition)
