@Freckles: Mine went back and I think most of the others did too (the ones that were STTN to begin with). But then around 13 months a lot of us had early morning wakings for a little while too so there's always something. Mine usually just got shushed and patted until he calmed down and then we set him back down and he fell asleep. We also use loveys.

@gingerbebe: thank you! did their sleep go back to normal? I'm just worried that these wakeups will last if I keep it up. My friend's daughter is 18 months and still waking up 3x a night. :meh:

All the moms in my birth month group had sleep disturbances around 9.5-11.5 months. It lasted a few weeks and it was like clock work wake ups every 3 hours twice to 3 times a night. It may be he's going through a phase. My son went back to STTN after this passed around his 1st bday so take heart!

@BabyTsMom: thank you! I'm glad to know I'm not just imagining the separation anxiety.

@looch: @blackbird: I think I will have to buy a lovey today. Did it get worse before it got better?

@ALV91711: last night I gave in and nursed him at 1am. He cried from 11-12, slept for maybe 45 min before waking up and crying again. His cries were bad so I went to nurse him and he woke up at 5am (6am). It feels like he needs to, but maybe I'm wrong?

@Freckles: Yes, we night weened at the same time, right around 11 months. It went good until I went back to work and then out of desperation I nursed him at night for a while.

How has sleep been the last couple nights?

I was fling to suggest a lovey, too! And that we had a regression in sleep a few days into sleep training-it took a full week to cement an E has been a great sleeper since. Good luck!

This is about the time we were successful with sleep training our son. The only thing that we did differently was that we introduced a lovey, a GloWorm. The model we had allowed him to push an area for music and a bit of light.

The pu/pd may be making him even more upset. He's so much more aware than a younger baby, so he really does understand that you are putting him down and leaving. I would try doing checks where you just go in, tell him you love him but it's sleeping time, and keep it to 15-20 sec per check.
And I agree that consistency is key..... I also agree that it could be a separation anxiety stage. My LO had it around that age and he was a bit harder to put to sleep around that time.

@ALV91711: We did sleep training much earlier for LO1 so it's been a harder experience with LO2! I am not back at work yet, but i have been transitioning him for about 1 month now. The funny thing is that now that he is doing better at daycare, his night sleep has gotten worse! Did you also night wean when you sleep trained?

I'd keep at it for a few days. And whatever you do, do it consistently. We did some sleep training around that age and it was one of the harder times.

How long have you been back at work? Could he just be having some extra separation anxiety if you've recently gone back?

My 11 month old son has never been a great sleeper. At 8 months i nap trained him and he was finally able to take long naps in the crib. We were then able to put him in his crib drowsy but awake for naps and night sleep (i would nurse him, sing a song while walking around the room and put him in his crib). He might cry for 1 minute but nothing too bad, even after going to daycare. His only problem was that his night sleep was inconsistent, and he recently was waking up every 3 hours. If DH went in, he would be unsuccessful at getting him back down and i would eventually go in after 1 hour and nurse him to sleep.

We recently decided to go back to CIO. DH's foot is still recovering from an injury and i'm having back pain again. The first night he went to sleep after 15 minutes of crying (1 check) and then he woke up 4 hours later. After 1 hour of several checks (pu/pd), he went to sleep until 6:30am. Amazing.

On the second day, he was starting to get upset at dinner time! He didn't eat much and he wanted me to hold him instead of playing. Again, he went to sleep after 15 minutes of crying (1 check). As soon as i hold him in a "rocking" position, he gets really sad and upset because he knows i'm going to put him to bed. He woke up 3 hours later crying. The night was a bit of a blur because we had wakeup issues with our older daughter, but at one point i gave in and was okay nursing. Of course, he woke up 3 hours later and almost 5am and it was really difficult to get him back to sleep (meaning he did not go back to sleep).

It's the third night, and he will still cry, but will go to sleep right after the first check. He still gets really upset before i put him in his crib. It has been a little over 3 hours so far. There have been a few cries here and there but nothing that lasts more than 5 seconds.

Is this sleep regression related to separation anxiety? His naps are okay (but there is a little more anxiety/crying compared to before we did the night CIO). Do i just need to keep at it for a few more days? Anyone else have this issue when sleep training older babies?

I really hate hearing him cry but it's just too hard to continue with the way things have been going!

(Sorry for the novel! )
