We made the change without any intention of doing so at one year. It just happened naturally. I was home with her for a week and her morning nap just kept getting pushed to about 11. She'd sleep for about 2.5 hours. We started a new daycare the following week and she was ready for the one nap schedule.

I say let it happen naturally (or at daycare).

I'd wait too - P always has two naps at home but from 11 m has only had one big nap at daycare. At 13 months now she can stay up all morning at home but only if we are out doing something! She gets too tired and bored otherwise!
The stimulation at daycare will help to transition. 11 months is young to go to one nap, but that said all babies are different (my son went to one nap at 9 months!!).

Honestly, I would wait and let it happen at daycare. I think daycare has extra stimulation to keep them up during the day and really push through to that later nap.

From 12-18 months DD was struggling with two short naps at daycare (they would nap her when she looked and acted sleepy but she wasn't getting restorative naps). But once she was in the 18-month toddler room where there is only a 1-nap schedule, she did REALLY well! She has slept and continues to sleep the entire two hours that the kids are down. It only took about a week for her to get into the groove. The teachers say that when the little ones see the bigger kids just going down, they just copy and go right to sleep.

This was us several months ago! We switched daycares at 11 months and the new daycare was on a one nap a day schedule. We didn't try it at home at all but he did fantastic at daycare on this new schedule. We continued one nap a day at home on the weekends and he's done well. Good luck!

We didn't push the one nap at home, even after DD switched to the toddler room at daycare and went down to one nap per day there. I have to say, it went fine, but my daughter isn't too into napping to begin with. We kept up with 2 naps per day at home until the 3rd weekend when she flat out refused her first nap. After that she became a 1 nap child at home as well as at daycare.

@Beebug: Good luck! No nap advice available since I am a new mom but just wanted to wish you well on the daycare transition. This will be my situation in a few months so I am very interested to see how your LO reacts to daycare.

We tried out one nap a day around 11 months and it was miserable for us. He just wasn't ready. He still takes 2 at daycare and on the weekends at home and is happier all around. If I was in your shoes, I wouldn't force it at all. If daycare will allow 2 naps still until your baby is ready, take them up on that offer!

Hey @beebug!!! D just moved up to the mobile baby room and they are working on moving her to 1 nap a day. The first week she still did 2 naps (short - 30 minutes each). Last week, she did just one nap, but for 2 HOURS each day!!! She's just so busy with all the activity she's into that it works great!

This weekend we just did one nap and it worked well.

Good Luck with C!!! She'll do great :)

Hi ladies,

I have read a few older posts and not feeling totally alone on this transition, which is a relief!

LO goes to daycare in less than 3 weeks for the first time and the "goal" for napping is one nap per day around noon. She is a two napper right now, sometimes a half hour each nap, sometimes two hours each nap, always a consistent bedtime 7:30pm, waking 6:45am or so for the day. I tried a couple times to do the one nap, but it's hard! How many solid days (weeks?) did it take you? I hate the idea of forcing it, but it seems like it's the way it's going to be eventually anyways. Daycare said if we don't get it at home it's okay and that the excitement of being there can make the morning go by faster and "ease" the transition, but part of me would like to get this going, any tips?
