@winniebee: We have a Zoli cup and he USED to drink a bunch out of it and I know he knows how to use it. And occassionally when he's playing, he'll crawl to it and take a couple sips, but just not very much.

@ALV91711: Glad to hear my baby's not the only one not drinking a lot!!

I offer water with every meal but he doesn't drink that much. Sometimes he doesn't want any sips and other times he gulps it down.

I like the suggestion of trying some sort of milk with dinner. Even if he only drinks a tiny bit it will get him used to it and probably make the transition easier.

@beaker: rain juice, love it!

@Adira: what kind of cups do u use? That could play a role. My son really only liked straw cups then. Munchkin mighty grips.

@wheres_c: @winniebee: Holy cow! That's a lot of water!!! I'm jealous!!

@Smurfette: Yeah, same with Xander! He either just bangs the cup on the table, shakes it around, or throws it on the floor! And when I try to get him to drink from it, he turns his head, pushes it away, and whines! Gahh!

@hilsy85: I haven't noticed Xander being uncomfortable going either, so maybe those hard poops aren't really bothering him? He had a few pretty soupy ones after too, so maybe he's getting enough fluids anyway? I think I'm going to try to feed him some pears whenever he won't drink water, just to be on the safe side!

@Dandelion: I actually thought of giving him some BM in his sippy with dinner instead, but then I decided against it because I was worried he'd come to expect it and if my supply tanked again, I wouldn't be able to keep up with it. But maybe I'll give it (or another milk) a try anyway! I only have about a month left before I want to transition him off all BM, so maybe it wouldn't hurt to start now.

@mrsbookworm: @beaker: @Mrs Green Grass: @dolphin: Thanks ladies!! I feel a little better after reading your responses! :)

I just left water on the table all day and he would drink it whenever he wanted. Probably 10 oz a day then? He still drinks a lot lf water at 20 months probably 12-15 oz a day and only around 10 of milk.

I never really measured how much water she drank. I just offer it with meals and I have it with me whenever we are out. She went through a phase where she would refuse water in her usual straw cup, but she would drink it from an open cup (I hold for her).

I don't give any water as long as poops are fine. He still drinks lots of formula/milk.

I think he's probably fine with all that BM. Agree to give him things with a high water content, and maybe some fruits to help with the constipation - pears, peaches, plums, etc. I also call water "rain juice" to make it sound more appealing, and let DS1 drop ice cubes in it (he loves doing that).

He's probably getting plenty of fluids through your breastmilk. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Eta: I know he's not going to have cow's milk but have you tried offering amy other milk alternative instead of the water? He might like that better.

No idea how much he drinks....I don't measure it! He's pretty good about drinking a lot of water though. WIth X drinking that much breastmilk I'd be surprised if he wasn't getting enough fluids...maybe just add in some prunes/pears? My LO also has some harder poops sometimes but he doesn't seem uncomfortable while going, so I think it just happens sometimes!

I asked the nurse at my baby group about this. She said if LO refuses water, just make sure to offer foods that have a high water content. Between that and nursing, she said they won't get dehydrated.

Question for you people out there! How much water does (or did) your LO drink during meals at 11 months? When we first really got going with solids, Xander used to drink about 2oz of water with each meal. Now I'm lucky if he drinks 2oz the entire day! He's had a few fairly hard poops lately and I'm really worried he's not getting enough fluids, but I don't know how much is normal or how to get him to drink more.

He nurses or has 4 bottles a day (bottles are 6oz, so I think he gets about ~24oz BM a day). For solids, he gets 15-20oz a day. And then maybe 2oz of water...

How much does/was your LO drink of water during the day? Any advice on how to get him to drink more (if you think he should have more)? Currently, I offer him water after ever 3-5 bites of food. He used to always take a sip, but now he tends to whine and push it away. If I give him the sippy to just drink as he desires, he throws it on the floor immediately. I also leave a sippy of water on the floor where he plays so he can drink whenever he wants.
