LO has just started doing this too, she is 10 months. She doesnt take it out of her mouth. But she starts by sticking out her tongue all the way which usually turns into her food falling out, and then she just starts spitting it out or letting it fall out. She usually starts to do this when she is about half way done. I wasnt sure what to do about it. I have tried tapping her cheek or her nose when she does it and stay no we dont spit our our food and it hasnt stopped her at all. I have also taken her food away when she first started but I felt really bad so I dont so that any more. I am hoping it is just a phase.

I would ignore it. My 7 month old keeps motorboating purees...which is not quite the same, but man is it annoying! I hope it's a phase that passes soon! :)

We ignore it. There is no point in getting angry. They don't know they are doing something you don't like! If she does it I offer something else from her plate, and then later offer the offensive food again. If she is taking everything out of her mouth I assume she's all done and we finish up.

We completely ignore if. It's up to him how much and what he eats. If he appears to be completely done and is just fooling around, we sign all done and clean him up. Sometimes he does this with harder food to soften it up though! He'll pull it out and put it back in several times before chewing and swallowing.

ETA I'd be really anxious that your LO would interpret the angry as angry about eating and start eating less all together. I don't think at that age they can discern nuances like that?

I have no idea but my 11 month old has been doing it too. So far I've just been ignoring it. He also hasn't been eating as well. I think because he is bored with what I've been giving him. I gave him something new and he didn't spit it out. Maybe try a new food? It's hard for us because he can't have dairy and we really don't eat much meat. :(

My 11mo has just learned how to spit out and pull out his food with his fingers.
I am pretty certain that its not because he dislikes the food...but more for fun/a reaction from us maybe?

Not sure of the best way to handle this? FI and I have different thoughts.

I think it's just a phase. Ignore it....if he does it often enough in one meal I take away his food. He doesn't seem upset that his food is no longer there.
I don't want him to go hungry though.

His dad gets baby appropriate "angry" which upsets LO, plus I think that shows he gets a reaction out of us.

Did your LO do this?
When did they grow out of it?
How did you handle it?
