@Mrs. Champagne: yeah I started her in the drop off program to give me a break before the new baby was born. All three of us were sick all winter- luckily the baby actually got it the least- and I credit breastfeeding for that. It's impossible to keep a sick but affectionate toddler from hugging the baby.

Gah these responses are making me nervous. I was going to try my son in half day pre school once a week this fall (we tried last year and dropped or after three weeks 😬) but I don't want him and the new baby constantly sick...

She started preschool at age 3 and she was sick A LOT. Her whole class seemed to be in a vicious cycle of sickness.

Hoping this year is different!

Yeah, my son was sick a lot. He started at age 2, it was part time and in the winter. We were in and out of the doctor's office. I think it's the fact that kids are still mouthing toys a lot at that age, and that's how they spread it.

I feel like she had a new cold every other week! But luckily they never materialized into anything worse.

My son started daycare at 10 months in the Australian summer. He was basically okay for about 4 months with just some minor stuff along the way, but he only probably missed a day or two. When "winter" (I use the term loosely as this is Australia we're talking about) hit, it was constant - colds, a couple of rounds of stomach flu, more colds, pink eye, and yet more colds. He was missing at least a day or two a week and was sick most weekends. It was a really tough 2/3 months, but we came out the other side and now, in the middle of his second winter at daycare, he's only missed 2 days total. His immune system seems super strong and he doesn't catch everything going around anymore - when he had to miss 2 days, I was told by his carer that his bff at daycare sneezed INTO his open mouth - so no great surprise there! Good luck - it sucks but its worth it!

My daughter started a drop off program at a local gym and almost 2.5, in November. She has been sicker that first six months than the rest of her life. It has sucked! But the big problem is that every cold turned into an ear infection. In just hoping that it's out of her system so when she starts preschool in September it won't be as bad.

My newly-turned 2 yr old recently started a morning program, four days a week. He's having a great time so far! I'm curious, though, did those who had no previous daycare experience get sick a lot? So far, he's had some loose poops but no fevers or anything. I am aware that fall and winter are coming, so illness is probably a given....
how bad was your LO's first fall and winter once they started preschool?
