I don't recall a reaction from DS, but just to be sure, I would postpone it for the following week so he can enjoy his party with his guests! :)

My daughter never had a reaction until the 12 month one. I think it must have been the MMR. She ended up getting a fever that lasted about 3 days, complete with sleepless nights and grouchy days (although some of the grouchiness was probably teething-related). We had to miss a good friend's first birthday! I would push it back a week, just to be safe.

We did them three days before her bday party. It was rough. She was up all night and I had to stay home with her the next day. I don't know if it was cause she was walking all day (shots in the legs) or what. She was finally back to herself around 36 hours later.

Ours was the Friday after her birthday. She was generally okay, but make sure you get a note for Tylenol and let daycare know about the shots and any reactions to look out for. I think either MMR or Chicken Pox has a delayed reaction, and H actually did have a fever/mild rash about four days after the shots (right when they said it could happen).

Thank you all so much - reschedule it is!

My LO ended up having his 12-month shots one day before he turned 13 months and they were fine with it. One of our pediatrician's rules is to schedule the 12-month appointment after any birthday parties, in case of any reactions. And they did say that any reactions can occur up to a week afterwards (Our LO didn't have any adverse effects, thankfully). So I voted to schedule after the party.

From what I understand, MMR side effects don't usually show up for a few days. My DD had a rash and high fever a few days after the vax, but nothing within 24 hours. My son only had a low grade fever.

I would push it. Even if it weren't for the party I don't like doing vaccines at morning appointments and then sending LO to school. I do end of day appointments so I can keep an eye on her myself for any adverse reaction.

My son was fine the day or so after. But he has a local reaction to one of the needles (not mmr) and then a few days later got a fever and was miserable from the mmr. I would push it just to be safe so his party isn't ruined. We had my husbands grandmas birthday a couple days after the mmr and DS was a disaster.

I always schedule our vaccination appointments for a Friday afternoon so we can keep LO home if he has a reaction. For our 12-mo appointment in September, we had a similar situation - his birthday is on a Thursday, family visiting/party that weekend, so our appointment will be the following Friday.

We've had various pediatricians and none have blinked at scheduling her appointment a week or even weeks after they are "due." We had no issues with the MMR other than the usual low fever and very slight crankiness but I also would always wait to do shots when we weren't traveling and she didn't have a cold or anything just to be safe.

My LO never had any reactions to any of his vaccines but a week after the MMR vaccine he started breaking out with a rash all over his body. We brought him back to the pedi and she said it was just a reaction to the MMR shot (he also got the chicken pox vaccine at the same time). I asked if he would get the same reaction for the next dose and she said he shouldn't but I'm still worried. Luckily he wasn't bothered by the rash and didn't have a fever or any other issues.

C has never had a really bad reaction to any of her vaccines, but she does seem off for a day or so- 12 month included. I would probably push it back a week. The week won't make a difference but I think it makes it more likely that he is feeling his best for his party.

Need some advice on when to schedule our 12 month vaccinations/check up. DS didn't have a bad reaction to any of his previous vaccines, but I have heard that 12 months can be pretty rough due to MMR. (I'm anticipating 8 immunizations at this appointment because they should have influenza available!)

His birthday party is currently the day after his shots. I'm probably worrying unnecessarily, but would you keep the Friday appointment, or delay until the following week? I could handle him being tired/grumpy on Friday, and can even take off from work if daycare says he isn't feeling well, but I really don't want him to be miserable for his party on Saturday.

The current plan and limitations:
Wednesday - not allowed because he is not "officially" 1 year old yet. (so frustrating!!)
Thursday - he is officially one, but doctor is out of the office today
Friday - appointment and vaccines scheduled at 8am, will go to daycare after. In-laws also arrive today from out of town.
Saturday- small birthday party with family/close friends
