@RubyCali: misery loves company ;). Last night was A LOT better! We got 11.5 hours with just one wake up to eat (pretty consistent as before) BUT it took 1.5 hrs to get her to sleep from her last feeding.

@ladyfingers: I'm scared of the 4 month! Was just reading your update!

DS was super clingy around that time. There's a wonder week AND a growth spurt, which is just so fun :) It gets better! And then you have a monster one around 4 months. ;)

@shopaholic: It's oddly comforting knowing that someone else is going through the same thing :) Things are going much better over here tonight so far, so hopefully the same for you!

@shopaholic: a week does sound like forever (it felt long too)! But, really it'll be over before you know it! He started the 4 month regression right around his 4 month mark (sometime during the week of his month "birthday"). It did seem cruel, because 16 weeks isn't that far away from 12!

He used to go to bed at 9pm and wake several times in the night to eat, but fall back asleep quickly. He also slept in a co-sleeper. At 4 months, he started waking much more frequently and not falling back asleep easily. He also wasn't waking just to eat (I'd feed him and he'd still fuss/be awake). He needed to be in a deep sleep to be put down. We changed some things and now he's asleep by 7, wakes to eat around 11, and then we let him sleep with us so I don't have to get out of bed again at 4 to feed him. He's 8 months and its not perfect, but we all feel like we get enough sleep :)

Oh, and he is able to get himself back to sleep more often now, without needing us to pick him up and rock him. If anything, he just needs a pat on the back or a little jiggle.

Man, I'd KILL for 6-7 hour stretches. That sounds amazing. Our LO hasn't ever gone longer than about 4, and ever since 3 1/2 months it's been mor like 3 or 2 1/2hrs at a time. S for me, the 4 month sleep regression wasn't too awful since things never rally got that great to begin with. At 12 weeks LO slept decently well actually, so I'm to much help.

@mewtill: oh... a week sounds soo long right now! lol!
When did his 4 month sleep regression start? Like, right at the start of 4 months? How did is sleep change? Since you said it never went back the same? Thanks!

Our son went through the wonder weeks symptoms at *about* but not exactly the right weeks. Right around 12 weeks he had horrible sleep - couldn't lay him down, needed to be rocked, crying/clinginess at night, only slept for short intervals even if we were co-sleeping. It stopped though, after maybe a week or so. I remember it slowly tapering off.

He did the 4 month regression, too. That time we had to change all our expectations of what had worked and find some new routines. He never went back to sleeping the same way he had, but he's got a new, consistent pattern after a couple weeks and still sleeps that way now at 8 months.

I remember feeling like I was going crazy and could never survive and he'd sleep awfully forever! It's not true! Your baby will settle into sleep again and you can make it through! Stay strong mamas :)

@RubyCali: Is it bad that I'm glad someone else is going through this too? :/ Like, at least it means my kid is normal? lol! Last night was ROUGH! She woke up ever 1.5-2.5 hours! It was like having a brand new newborn again! And she just couldn't get comfortable to sleep. Of course, today she is all smiles again! How can she run on such interrupted sleep better than I can?

@tororojo: Jealous! ;)

I don't know! L magically started sleeping 9 hr stretches again...but I feel like any day now it will change since we're almost to the dreaded 12 week mark. Clinginess sounds like a wonder week characteristic, maybe?

I don't have any advice but I feel like I could have written this same post! DD is 12 weeks and my normally easy to put to sleep/deep sleeper has morphed into a fussy, light sleeper, waking up all.the.time! Hoping it's just a wonder week. In fact, I can hear her starting up again right now....

Since before 8 weeks, K has been a pretty good sleeper and sleeps in her own crib. If anything, she's pretty predictable and seems to like routine. She's almost 12 weeks now. We've gotten a few 9+ hour stretches in between feeding/waking even! Though usually we get one 6.5-7hr stretch per night. This week, we were even able to get her into the crib drowsy, and fall asleep with the sea-horse. I felt so lucky!

Suddenly, last night was AWFUL! She would not stay asleep in her crib for more than a couple of minutes. She would wake up crying and not be able to fall back asleep on her own. But if DH or I picked her up, she would almost instantly fall back asleep. Put her down, she's awake and crying again. This went on ALL NIGHT. DH held her till her 3:30am feeding. I held her until after her 7:30am feeding. Finally, out of sheer exhaustion, I left her unswaddled and let her co-sleep in bed with us. This got me a 2.5 hr stretch, until I got out of bed - she instantly woke up. Daytime mood is excellent. She is sweet and happy as can be and babbling a lot! I will say all week she has wanted to be held more, but content to just be held and look at everything, just so alert and aware.

Tonight, again, we haven't been able to put her down in the crib for more than a few minutes before she wakes and crying ensues. On top of that, she has been bursting out into WAILING and not much seems to comfort or soothe her. I even tried to give a paci after she had nursed to sleep for 1/2 hr (but she wakes as soon as I move). I finally got her to calm down by hugging her real tight (even though she was swaddled). Even then, she would have these "about to cry" expressions in her light sleep. DH thinks she has growing pains.

I know "clingy-ness" is a characteristic of the Wonder Weeks, but she is still 6 days early according to her EDD or 3 days early according to her birth-date. She has been showing a lot of the 12 week leap signs and growth since last week, so I am wondering if the sleep is affected because of this? Or is this a growth spurt? We think she is freaking out when she wakes up and realizes she is alone. This wasn't a problem for the last 4 weeks - I often see her wake and fall back asleep on her own.
I'm worried we're going to have to end up co-sleeping again if this continues!

Please tell me you experienced this too and that it's part of the Wonder Week or growth spurt? And if so, when did things go back to normal?

P.S. I'm TERRIFIED of the 4 month sleep regression now, if this is just a glimpse of what it'll be like!
