@jh524: ugh. So boring if you can't do anything else! I mean, besides gazing lovingly at the baby but let's get real- that gets boring too :)

I've noticed L gets super distracted lately. If I'm talking he pops on and off to stare/smile at me. He also loves to grab the top of my shirts and just hold them while he nurses. He aaalso doesn't nurse for nearly as long any more which worries me because he was never a long nurser to begin with!

DS does this as well, and burping normally does the trick. If he pushes away when I re-offer the same boob, I offer the other boob because I can't really tell if that boob is empty or not. If he pushes that away also, I just take it he is done.

S has done this for a while now. She'll be on for maybe 5mins then off, then on, then off, then on, then off. I burp her inbetween and offer the same boob again to make sure she's getting to the hind milk. I don't know if that's the right thing to do, but I'll only offer the other boob if it's been like 20mins total feeding time. I just assumed it was a flow thing- I know it tends to come out pretty fast so I guess she is taking a breather? Since she's been doing that I think her spit up has improved.

@hilsy85: by nursing necklace, is that like the silicone bead kind of thing? I have one I tried and I think she just needs to get used to it.

I can't comment on the nursing part but, for comparison, E isn't taking her bottles nicely any more either! She used to take them beautifully, slow but steady, until she was finished. Recently, she has been wriggling about, grabbing at the bottle with her hands (knocking it away), pushing the teat all around her mouth then crying because she is hungry and the flow of food has stopped! Tjdy must be at that age....

I agree it could be the beginning of distraction, or possibly related to the flow. You could try going L-R-L to see if she'll drain the left side some more if you feel like she is not. She may also be getting more efficient. Usually if I have what I feel like is not a productive session, I just offer again in about 20 or 30 minutes.

Maybe trying giving her a lovey or a nursing necklace to hold? Could be the beginning of distraction? Or she might really be done. If you take her off after 10 min on each side, is she hungry again a half hour later?

For the past week or two, C has been popping on and off whole she is nursing, most the left breast. She starts between 5-10 minutes in, pulls off, then latches right back on. I'll burp her, and usually can get a good one, but then she continues it so I switch sides if we stated on the left. I'm a little worried that she isn't fully draining that side, but could the flow just be faster on that side? She's not even really fussy when she does it. And she will do the same on the right but not nearly as often.

She's a slow nurser and a big comfort nurser too, which is why ten minutes seems so short.

Oh and she has started grabbing at my short bra strap with her top hand- she seems to pull off less if I give her my finger to hold.

Anyone else's Lo do this?
