@sweetiepie maybe that is the problem. I am definitely not overlapping the tabs. It may be that as he moves and rolls around during the night, the diaper is getting loose and moving around and letting the pee out. My husband is always worried that the diaper is too tight and uncomfortable. But I think I will try to tighten the tabs a bit more tonight and see.

@MrsADS: My son was def wearing size 5 at that stage, approx same size as yours. We definitely had to overlap the tabs across his waist to make it tight.

@Mrs. Pickles yes I'm pretty religious about the ruffles. Interesting about the cold = more peeing. I don't *think* he's cold... we keep our house pretty warm (we are in Florida), so it usually runs about 74-75 at night. He sleeps usually in a long sleeve onesie and sometimes bottoms, sometimes not, and a cotton sleep sack.

How do the Huggies Overnight fit your 25 lb son around the waist? They seem kind of big on my son. I wonder if I need to size down??

@MrsADS: are the ruffles full out around the legs?

also, if my son (15 mo 25lbs is in size 5 huggies overnights) gets cold at all he pees an excessive amount and leaks out, so I have him in a sleep sack and fleece jammies even though it's still in the 80s, we keep our AC at about 70

good luck

We switched to honest overnights when they got rid of the pampers baby dry extra protection. We've had one or two leaks (at the waist/belly), but overall not bad.

I've had good experiences with honest overnight diapers. Have you tried cutting back on liquids before bed? My DD was leaking and moved her pre-bed milk to before her bath and now we've cut it out all together. No more leaks!

UPDATE: 1 week later.

I went and got Huggies Overnights in size 5. (DS is 13 months, about 22 lbs, wears size 4 during the day). He had been wearing size 5's in Pampers overnights.

The first few nights - awesome! No leaks! I thought I've found the perfect solution.

The last 2 nights - horrible leaks out one leg! The diaper was not even that full, so it was not an overfull issue (so I don't think a diaper doubler would help). It's leaking out one side. This is majorly disrupting our sleep.

I am not sure if that means they are too big? Is this user error? The Huggies seem pretty loose around the waist but the leg holes seem ok. I can't figure it out and I am desperate to get back to sleeping!

Help!

@MrsADS: Huggies overnights in one size up from daytime + a diaper doubler worked for my heavy wetter. If your kiddo is in a 4 during the day I'd go to a 5. I wouldn't go to a 6 because then I'd be worried about leaks from it being too big.

Ugh, the new Swaddlers are absolutely worthless! My girls aren't super heavy wetters at night and I've had tons of problems with them. Based on the reviews I've read and the posts on their FB page it seems a lot of people are disappointed in them.

DS (9 months) is 24lbs, and also a heavy over night wetter. We also used size 4 baby dry, but he kept leaking through. So we switched to the Huggies in a size 5 for over night and so far that's working.

@junebugsmama @smurfette @sweetiepie We tried huggies when we first started using overnight diapers and didn't like them, BUT that was several months ago. I think I will try again.

Wonder what size to get, though. He wears a 4 in daytime diapers, has been wearing a 5 in the Pampers overnight for the past several months. Not sure if I should get 5's or 6's?

I really like the idea of either a pull up or cloth diaper cover over the top of the diaper too!

@MrsADS: I think if I were you I would probably try huggies, but I will say that when I went on vacation and I REALLY didn't want to let my son leak on my friend's guest bed, a cloth diaper cover over a regular diaper worked wonders! You could get a cover for pretty cheap to try it out.

We use huggies overnight in a size up and his diaper is MASSIVE in the morning.
I've also heard of doubling up. My friend had this issue with pee AND morning poop coming out of the night diaper. She started putting toddlers overnight pull-ups OVER the night diaper and that resolved the issue.

My almost 13 month old has always been a really heavy nighttime wetter and we've gone through several leak phases and had to adjust our nighttime diaper strategy. He is about 22 lbs.

For the past few months, we have been using Pampers overnight (baby dry extra protection) in a size 5 (he wears a size 4 during the day). I also bought some diaper doubler pads. Now we are having small leaks the past several nights. He's not waking up soaked but wet enough that it's waking him up. He has JUST started sleeping through the night a few times a week and I would REALLY REALLY like that to continue.

I don't know where to go from here. Part of the issue is Pampers has discontinued the Baby Dry Extra Protection diaper. The replacement is a Swaddlers Overnight. I bought a box in size 6, haven't tried them yet. But they feel super flimsy and thin - totally different than what we are using now, so I don't have high hopes. Is it ridiculous to put a 22 lb 12 month old in a size 6 overnight?

Has anyone tried this new Swaddlers Overnight?

I would also consider a cloth diaper overnight, but we've only done disposables since day 1 and the learning curve seems a bit too much for me right now.
