My DD was like that at that age too. We stopped nursing at 13 months. We were down to only night feedings at that point. I decided one night it would be our last and it was bittersweet. I was half hoping that the next night she would decide to ask for it, but she happily went to bed without nursing and that was that. I was happy to make it past a year.

My DD (18 mo) stopped asking to nurse... well honestly I don't even remember exactly when it was, because we plowed right ahead with the wakeup feeding and bedtime feeding without waiting for her to ask. We've been doing that for almost six months and, for me personally, I'm so glad we did - there have been times when she was sick when she asked to nurse in the middle of the day and I was so touched that she needed and wanted that, and I was glad to be able to give it to her.

But I do think it's up to your preference at this point. You could wean if you want to.

This is interesting. My 13 month old is more nursing obsessed now than he ever was in his first year.

My 14 month old is like that. I'm still offering before naps and bedtime for now. My oldest was like @erinbaderin:'s baby and flat out refused around 13 months, so I considered him weaned. Both times I've been pregnant (got pregnant when they both were 12 months), so that's probably affecting my supply.

I agree you could wean now if you want to but don't have to. My experience was I had to offer multiple times before she would come nurse- so at that point I really knew she was ready, even though she would nurse well once she started. When *I* was ready, one night I didn't offer and just did the rest of the bedtime routine and that was that. The nice thing is if you decide to wean now, you know it and can prepare yourself and savor the last few times.

My oldest was like that. One day I wanted to see what would happen if I didn't offer... she never asked for it again. I was heartbroken.
If you want to continue, I'd keep offering until she makes it clear she doesn't want it anymore.

I think babies that age are very busy, and since she's getting most of her nutrition now from solid food she doesn't ask to nurse because she doesn't need it. I bet if she was sick or tired or something she would ask for the comfort of it. I'd say you can go either way - if you want to wean her stop offering, and if you want to keep nursing just keep offering. For comparison my son weaned himself when he was about that age but he wouldn't nurse when I offered, he just pushed me away and yelled whenever I tried to nurse him.

My 13 month old has been nursing when she wakes up and before bed, and will drink regular milk from a sippy cup during the day. However, she never asks to nurse, it's always me offering. She'll nurse for a few minutes on each side (at most) and then goes back to playing.

This morning my husband offered her a sippy cup of milk when she woke up and she seemed to not even care that she hadn't nursed. I've tried researching this but can't figure out if she's weaning herself (since she never asks to nurse) or if she's just too distracted to ask (since she will still eat when I offer).

My goal was to nurse for a year and then just see what happens but I think emotionally I'm having a harder time letting go than I thought I would and am clearly confused on if she's weaning herself or what's going on.

Any other mamas go through the same thing? Thank you for any help!!
