@SweetiePie: We're able to stick to that schedule at home but it's a whole different ball game with getting her on that schedule at daycare. We try but we can't expect her to be able to fall into that with seven other babies around on completely different sleep schedules :/

@Katebydesign: Ohhhhh when you said she started going 4-5 hour stretches at daycare I read that as sleep. My bad!

And now that I know that, agree with @lbee:
My son was on a 4 hour feeding schedule at that age but he was taking like 6-7 ounces per feed. I know many who were still on 3 hours at that age so it’s probably more common.

At that age I would be very comfortable being on a strict schedule vs feed on demand / fall asleep whenever. By schedule I don’t mean by the clock. I mean like no more than 1 hour awake, no more than 3/3.5 hours between feeds and naps 2-3 hours. If she starts waking at the same time each day then it will also naturally fall into the same time schedule each day.

Maybe also read 12 Hours by 12 Weeks? It basically says that night sleep is dependent on ounces consumed during the 12 daytime hours so that they don’t need any during the 12 night time hours. I didn’t read it till after 12 weeks either but it was still valuable and worked for us.

My daughter is a similar age. A few things:
1. Girl can't hang - she cannot stay up past 1 hour or she will lose her mind. It also is reflected in her night sleep.. she is the kind of baby that sleep begets sleep. (she's high sleep needs too)
2. She is on a strict 3 hour feeding schedule. If she is asleep during bottle time we request 30 minutes extension before she is woken-up.
3. By stretching bottles 4-5 hours you are pretty much eliminating one day time feed that most (if not all) babies that age need during the day in order to stretch out night. It sounds like she is just switching her days and nights to address that need.

Candidly it doesn't really sound like the 4 month regression. It sounds like a hungry, overtired baby.

@kiddosc: I've asked them not to keep her awake for more than an hour, because at home she really can hardly go more than an hour before getting fussy. She's definitely a baby that needs a lot of sleep. They say they try but that she just lays there happy and content for sometimes an hour before closing her eyes.

@SweetiePie: She's never napping more than 3 hours. Her naps just happen at inconvenient times :/

@Katebydesign: If she's falling asleep right before her next feed, then it seems like her wake time is too long. At 14 weeks, I would think her wake time would only be around 90 minutes. I know that's not always possible at daycare, but maybe they can try to get her to sleep sooner and then feeds could happen closer to every 3 hours. It kind of seems like she's reverse cycling, though I've only heard of that in the context of breastfed babies before.

@Katebydesign: sleep specialists advise that daytime sleep shouldn’t exceed 2-3 hours max. If it does it can mess up their days and nights so they do longer stretches during the day and shorter at night.
It sounds like she might have switched days and nights since she is going 4-5 hours during the day. I would have them wake her at the 2 hour mark during the day, if it were me.

@petitenoisette: It technically started at about 2.5 months so I'm afraid of what 4 months might bring!

She is napping better at daycare, she just often falls asleep right before she is supposed to have another bottle, hence the long stretch.

You're pretty close to 4 months which in our experience was a terrible sleep regression that our daughter didn't just naturally grow out of. We lived with it for a long time but wake-ups were every 2-3 hours until we did some sleep training. She still would get up after that but not as often.

Is she napping better at daycare? 4-5 hour stretch seems a long time during the day without eating too.

@Jennibenni: If it just started I would chalk it up to a phase. I wouldn't have thought twice about it if it was going on for a week or so. But after five weeks I'm worried this might be our new normal!

I literally just came to hellobee to post a question about my 14 week old now waking every 2-3 hours at night. I wonder if it could be developmental? I'm a little relieved I'm not the only one but holy hell, it sucks.

Prior to starting daycare at 9 weeks, my DD was sleeping 4-5 hour stretches at night without eating, fairly regularly. Five weeks ago she started daycare and like all babies, had a hard time napping. She still struggles. So we've instructed them not to wake her to eat since she had been napping so little. She started going 4-5 hour stretches at daycare without eating, but still eating the same amount during the day. Almost immediately, she stopped her 4-5 hour stretches at night and we haven't seen a 4 hour stretch for 5 weeks.
I wanted to give it some time, thinking things might change and it could be just a phase. But five weeks and feeding her every 2-3 hours at night still is getting super exhausting, especially being back at work.

She does have reflux and is treated for it. She's also on AR formula and was never breastfed.

Any suggestions? Is the only solution to have daycare wake her every 3 hours to feed her? Or is it that she's maybe overtired at night and not necessarily hungry?

Helllppp!
