@avivoca: glad her sleep is getting better, but sorry to hear about the day are crud. Sucks that your furnace is broken too. This is not the time for that to happen. I hear you on being tired. Hopefully you can get some good naps this weekend.

@Sadieloo: Hey friend! Her sleep is getting better, we're fighting the daycare crud right now. Today she got up at 5:20. We co-slept because the furnace is broken, and her sleep is so much worse when we co sleep. Mama is tired.

@avivoca: I hear you! Having our nanny has been super helpful to figure out Alex's 'schedule' if you can call it that. How's H's sleep coming along? A's has been getting slightly better. He did a 4 hr stretch last night and only woke up 4 times. Frightening that this is an improvement, but I'll take whatever I can get!

@Sadieloo: I never thought I'd say this, but thank goodness for daycare. Because of it, I have more of an idea of what her routine is and I don't stress about it like I did when I was home with her.

It sounds to me like the dreaded 4 month sleep regression. Our pediatrician told us to let her cry it out and we did it one night and she was seriously miraculously better the next night. You might want to consider transitioning to the crib now so that you don't go through another transition in a few months. The first night is the hardest but we all slept so much better when she wasn't with us. Lastly, what worked for us was to get totally fed up about how you can't handle it anymore, cry and have a total pity party And then somehow she gets us that she pushed us as far as we're gonna go and then she gives in and sleeps!

@mskeee: I'm sorry that you dealt with the same things, but very happy to hear that it was mostly just a phase. everything you dealt with sounds familiar here -- I can't wait for the phase to end!!!

@avivoca: Hi friend! Long time, no talk?!?! Sounds like they have been chatting and A has convinced H to come to the dark side. His sleep has been going to crap for the last ten days or so. I think we are only now recognizing how bad it is now because we've been tracking everything. Because we co-sleep sometimes, I also think it's entirely possible I had no idea how often he was waking up.

I hope you are right with A and taking things on his own terms and/or growing out of it. My 'guess' is that there are just so many changes right now that A needs a little TLC...my work has been super intense and we haven't had as much time together, we now have a nanny, and he may be teething and prepping for his next big leap/rolling.

Anywho...I don't know that I would say the No Cry Sleep Solution is or isn't working. Given the above, I think this is probably not the right time to try some of it, but I also feel like there is no time like the present to instill good sleeping habits and avoid A being totally dependent on us to get to sleep. That said, he did fall asleep today on his own in the bassinet as I was showering (point one mama))...

A has just about outgrown his bassinet and we can't decide whether being in a confined space, swaddled, etc. etc. is good for him and/or what will work. We've been trying naps pretty much everywhere with limited success (including his crib). Thank goodness we have a nanny who can take some of this on. Otherwise, I think I'd really go nuts!

In her fourth month, we def had the most challenging time sleep wise ever, and it was a phase (weeeellll except the naps - they stayed at 45 mins). But super fun things like waking up for the day at 4 am, not going down for a nap for several hours at a time, even if hysterical, total rejection of doing things that made her sleepy (paci, nursing). She would SCREAM and then eat for a second, SCREAM, eat for a second. Oy! But it did go away, thank g-d. Hang in there. I thought I was going to go crazy.

@Sadieloo: Has A been talking to H? H's sleep went to crap this week too. She's been drooling a lot and has her first cold, plus we are in a super long Wonder Cycle (because if it lasts more than a week, I refuse to call it a 'wonder week'). I'm hoping it gets better.

How is the No-Cry sleep solution working for you? I read it a few weeks ago, but I'm so tired that I can't remember it.

I also wanted to note that H started sleeping in her crib again at 8 weeks, and prior to that would have none of it. She just did it on her own terms, so maybe that's what's going on with A? She hated the Moses basket because she could touch it when she flung her arms and it woke her up.

@hilsy85: Good to know! I am very ready to sleep train, but am not sure I have CIO in me. I have been reading the No Cry Sleep Solution and am trying to instill some better sleep habits with varying success. How can this child not be tired is what I want to know?!?

@Sadieloo: we did modified CIO (Ferber's method) and it took about 3 days to see major improvement! There was some improvement by night 2 though, We did it just to get down to 1 night waking, not to night wean completely. I highly recommend reading his book Solve your child;s sleep problems, even if you're not ready to sleep train. There's a ton of good info/research about baby sleep.

@Sadieloo: For us, the first 16 weeks were hell. Then it really did magically get better relatively quickly. By 6 months we were getting our first STTN instances... didn't stay consistently, but hell was definitely behind us after 16 weeks! So at the very worst, it is probably just the phase of the first 4 months... you're so close!!!

Hi All! I am hoping you gals can talk me off the ledge. Ok -- maybe that is a bit -- well, a lot-- dramatic, but I don't know what happened to my decent-ish sleeper and would love your thoughts and advice. I thought things were supposed to get better at 3 months.

We have been primarily co-sleeping with our little one, but have been trying to transition him out of our bed and into the bassinet (in hopes of getting him in the crib sooner rather than later) for the past few weeks. Initially we were really successful and he was sleeping 4-5 hour stretches in the bassinet.

And now everything has gone to crap. Naps have gone from 1-2 hours to 45 min, except for his last nap of the day which was 2.5 hours yesterday. Nighttime has been a nightmare. We have been putting him down in the bassinet in our room while he is fully asleep (he won't have it any other way) and he generally wakes between 5-45 minutes later (I have even stood over him for 10 minutes rubbing his belly to make sure he's asleep). When he wakes up, he will oftentimes fall right back asleep and/or settles if we pick him up (we try to do this before he fully wakes up and before his whimpering and crying escalates), but then he is up again within 5-10 minutes or wakes up within 1-2 hours. Even today my fail proof nap location (the ergo) only got 45 minutes. I should add that we are trying to rock/sway/bounce him back to sleep first and then offering the breast when needed (we're trying to avoid a nurse to sleep association), unless it's been 3-4 hours since his last feeding in which case he gets the boob.

On the bright side, he will sleep and put himself to sleep in the ergo, car, stroller and bouncy chair, but even those aren't working as they once had.

Please tell me this is all either teething, a wonder week and/or the 4 month sleep regression and will have our little guy back in no time?!!?
