For us for DS2 the 15/18m regression was 5/530 am up for the day wakings for a month or two. He still took 2 naps and when we solidly got him on one a day he went back to sleeping 730-630 or even 7. DS1 I can't remember.

Thank goodness for this post! We're going through the same regression. It started about 3-4 weeks ago (mid June 2016) when our then 14.5 month old son's four canines were about to cut through. He'd wake up 2-3 times in the middle of the night (when he used to sleep from 7:30pm-7/7:30am) crying and shrieking, often he even tries to climb out! Nothing would calm him down unless I nursed him back to sleep or I picked him up from his crib and had him co-sleep in our room. Since he was born he never took to a pacifier, never was interested in a lovey or blanket, and never liked bottles unless I was out of town. He finally slept through the night around 10 months when we finally resorted to CIO (we tried CIO at 6 months and it was a nightmare).

Fast forward to tonight, he didn't fall asleep until 9:45pm! 40 minutes later he woke up crying. I told my husband, "I've had it, I can't keep picking him up." And when I'm the one who checks on him, he cries longer because he knows I have the boob. So this time I had my husband go in to check on him and try to calm him down with a bottle or pacifier, both didn't work, of course.

What did work was my husband rubbing our son's back gently and shushing softly. When he laid down on his back, my husband started rubbing his belly gently and he fell asleep. It took 20 minutes. But then he woke up again an hour later! My husband did the same thing; without saying anything, he rubbed his back and when he laid down on his back he rubbed his belly and he fell back asleep. The second time took 10 minutes. It's 12:33am now and so far so good. I'm praying he stays asleep!

The first time my husband went in, I Googled 15 month old sleep regression and found a few sites that were focused more on 18 month old sleep regression. I scrolled down a few articles and found this site and felt comfort in reading we're not the only ones going through this.

There's no tried-and-true method but the above is what finally worked for us and we're hoping it will get us through at least this night. My husband and I needed a reminder that this is just a phase and that we don't want our son to develop long-term bad sleeping habits because we got him used to short-term "solutions."

We're traveling to Paris and Bayeux this September and now we're feeling terrified of another regression. Please wish us luck!

@singingbee: we are getting something similar. He goes down well but then wakes up between 11-3 screaming this horrible, desperate scream. It takes about 10 minutes to calm him down. Typically the only thing that does is a bottle. He's also trying to go down to one nap but is having a horrible time staying awake long enough.

Bumping this out of desperation!

Lo is walking, on one nap, and can fall asleep in her crib. However, she wakes up anywhere from 11 pm to 2 am screaming. She won't stop until you get her. I usually don't respond until 10 min have passed since it is middle of the night. Then she will fall asleep in your arms, but wake up as soon as you get in her room or try to put her back down. We have slept on the couch, in the chair, and in the bed together to just make it through the night. I'm trying to survive the week; it's the last week of school, my partner teacher is out with the flu and we have more kids each day coming down with something. I need sleep so I'm not coming down with anything. What do I do? Help! Molars are coming in, but I feel like I've been saying that for a while.

LO is 14.5 months and for the past few days sleep has been total crap. fighting bedtime, having random MOTN wakeups screaming, and waking up early again. she is already on one nap, so I am not sure what's causing it (many of you said you switched to one nap and sleep got better). maybe molars? I am praying it ends soon! she is so cranky lately :(

@Beyond2: thank you! I just have to bear down and put in earbuds until he's back to normal I guess. DH took him out for car naps a few times but I don't want to develop any bad habits for something that's temporary. Did I mention my in-laws are visiting? Having them hearing him scream is uncomfortable to say the least.

@MamaChin: we're finally back to normal too and it involved a dropped afternoon nap. He's now sleeping from 900ish to 1130ish and going down for bed at 730 and sleeping through to 700ish. This just started last week though so we battled this sleep regression for weeks unfortunately. I think it was the hardest one for me to date! Thankfully he did push a molar through in that time, but we're still waiting on the one on the other side which I'm sure will screw everything up again! Good luck!!

So nice to hear I am not alone. LO is almost 14 months and has been fighting naps tooth and nail for 3 weeks by shrieking and just tonight started fighting night sleep too. He stood and screamed for 30 mins before I went in and read him a million books. Put him down and he screamed for another 15 mins before finally passing out. Someone please tell me this will be over soon!!!

We had about 2 weeks around 14 months where our DD did this. She would fight sleep and when you would try to put her down she would cling to you for dear life. I don't know what caused it and why it ended but one day she just stopped fighting and fell asleep. I'm sorry I'm not any better help but totally hear your frustration. Hang in there mama!

Me too...My 16m DD has been awful to put to sleep lately. We finally bit the bullet and sleep trained in October. We did the sleep lady shuffle where you stay in the room and move a little further from the bed every 3 nights until you are outside the room. It was rough at first but then it got much better to the point where she was asleep within 5 minutes every night and sometimes without a peep. She would still wake once per night about 2/3 nights, but within 5m of shushing she was back to sleep.
Then we went to France for 2 weeks...
While away we were staying in different places almost every night, I tried to hold on to her bedtime routine as much as possible but reverted to nursing her down most nights. When she would wake we took her in bed with us because we were sleeping in the same room.
When we returned she actually went down quite easily again for the first week, in about 5m she was asleep and without me nursing. But with the jet lag she was waking at 4 or 5 am and having a hard time getting back to sleep so I was taking her in bed and nursing to help her. After about a week the jet lag was gone and I stopped nursing her at night, but I have still been taking her in bed when she wakes up because I am currently pregnant and just too tired/lacking the resolve to deal with it.
This past week has been terrible, culminating in tonight. She has cried for almost an hour every single night. Last night I decided to return to the sleep training and moved into her room, positioned halfway between her bed and door. But when she woke up at night I was lazy and took her in bed. Then tonight, she stood there and cried for 1h 45m, with me in the room shushing and trying to calm her. I'm a bit concerned because she has started trying to gag herself on the rail of her crib and by force coughing, I think she is trying to vomit so we will take her out of bed. She did not do this the first time we sleep trained. She is also refusing to lie down, she fell asleep sitting up tonight. I just don't know what to do besides try to remain consistent and keep at the sleep training since it worked before. It's so hard, I'm tired, completely drained from listening to her cry for so long and dreading bedtime now. DH travels for work so I have to solo parent 4 nights a week - I just don't know how I'll make it through this week if it continues...
Sorry for the novel, but man tonight was hard and it feels good to rant about it.

I am interested in how long this lasted for you all. My LO (15.5 months old) recently started refusing to sleep (first at night and then at nap time too) unless someone is in her room with her. She stands and screams until you open the door and then she immediately lays down....until you leave again. It's awful. I can't decide if it is separation anxiety or a game/testing her limits or something else. But hoping it doesn't last too long?!

I know you said baby is not walking yet but are there other things such as a walker or Johnny jumper thy could tire him out? It seems like the more active Tor is during the day the better he sleeps.

For us this was the beginning of the second year molars. Sleep went downhill and lasted that way for a long while. Those second year molars were terrible to get through.

Oh my gosh! I could have written this post!!!! My son is almost 15 months and our sleep situation has turned into chaos. He was sleeping 7:30- 7 and then napping from 9-12 and again from 3-4:30. Life was good!

Now he's crying every time he's put in his crib. Fighting naps for an hour or more. Waking up in the middle of the night and waking up for the day at 5am. I'm frustrated and exhausted!!!!

We figured he must need to drop the second nap so today I tried one nap at 11 and he only slept for 45 minutes. I don't know what to do with him.

Anyone have any advice? He usually sleeps 7 to 7, 2 naps 2 hrs long. But last week he woke up at midnight screaming and he won't go to sleep in his crib now at all. Seems to me that he is dropping his first nap, so I decided to try and hold off on it to see if he would sleep a longer nap during the day and sleep better at night. But today he held out until 11:00 and napped only until 12:30, which he usually naps two two hours naps or one 3 hour nap. I just tried to put him back down and he is crying! He didn't go to sleep until eleven last night, then work around 5 AM, cried, then fell asleep until 8. I am at a total loss! He isn't walking BTW.
