@muffinsmuffins: those are good nights. I hear ya, I feel like I should know what I’m doing. With DS1 he had his teeth “on schedule” and I don’t recall so much misery.

I have a coworker with a babe a couple months older and she is going through the same thing with teething and terrible sleep.

@ALV91711: that’s good news! Hopefully onwards and upwards. We made it to 4:50 am yesterday and then 5:15 today but he also got his flu booster last night...we are going to be at like 9 so at least we got some sleep and I think I felt the last tooth is through for us. I feel like such a noob about teeth even though we went through this with my first! He never seemed bothered by it to the degree little guy is.

@muffinsmuffins: last night was a lot better. Tooth still isn’t through but we gave him dinner about 30 min later than normal, so pretty much right before bed and some Motrin. He had 3 wake ups and no crazy screaming.

Thank you ladies! I stopped on the way home tonight and got some Motrin, really hoping it helps. Looks like the tooth is just abou to come through.

@cake2017: seems like he ate good at daycare today, so hopefully that helps.

@LCTBQE: I think we are going to be in for a lot of teething in the upcoming months so I really hope Motrin helps. He’s working on tooth 4 right now.

@muffinsmuffins: early wake ups are hard. We were awake just after 4 this morning! Hope he handles all the Christmas activities well. But I guess at least if he’s already sleeping crappy it’s not wrecking something good, just will be tough for the mamas.

@MrsSCB: With extinction do you go in at all when they wake up? Or is it go to bed and see you in the morning? I think we will have to sleep train but we will wait until we are through the worst of this round of teething.

Agree with others that motrin helps more. Also, if you do want to sleep train, extinction worked better at that age (or close to that age). My son had some major sleep problems starting around that time. We finally sleep trained with extinction at 19 months. It worked very quickly. Before that, we'd been going in and out of his room and it was just a mess and made it much worse.

Well I was coming to post literally the exact same thing! Hello September 2018 mama and commiseration! DS has gotten like 6 teeth in the month including molars and the last one is poking through since yesterday. He’s been getting up between 4:30-5:30 the past week and we are so tired. He won’t eat dinner either but he’s having a bedtime bottle at least. We’ve been dosing him with meds too. Nothing really working and I’m panicking about Christmas vacation car rides, hotels, weird sleep arrangements too. Update if you find something that works! May the force be with you :meh:

@ALV91711: 1000% second what others are saying, that Motrin is better than Tylenol. Obviously your comfort level with giving painkiller is super personal, but during the worst of it, we give our girl (same exact age) Motrin basically around the clock for a couple days when she has a molar coming in. When she seems like she's teething and hurting but not that level-10 miserable, we give her cold stuff during the day and Motrin at night if she can't sleep. She has 8 teeth so far and it feels like she's been teething two weeks on two weeks off since around Memorial Day. At least for us, the Motrin makes a night and day difference between her being miserable and at least allowing her some rest from the pain.

@ALV91711: Sounds like teething. I offered oatmeal and cold cereal to my little one and nursed for comfort and it helped with inflammation. Yes, definitely give motrin which helps with inflammation. Call pediatrician to get the accurate dose for him. You might want to wait with sleep training if he’s very uncomfortable. I would just wait alittle longer going in if it’s hourly but if it’s more wake up probably because he’s uncomfortable. I hope it helps and passes by QUICKLY!

@Ms. RV: in the last couple weeks with being sick and teething he’s been having a lot more pouches since he’s not too interested in chewing. He’s still nursing but I’m not nursing every 2 hours all night!! I try to keep it to once or twice and he really does seem to chug the milk.

This sounds like what we are going through with our 18 month old. One thing we have found is that often when he wakes up at night he is hungry. I think since teething hurts so much he isn't eating enough at dinner. We now give him a banana right before bed and if he wakes up at night we offer him milk. These haven't eliminated night wakings but they are a lot shorter.

@cake2017: @Mama Bird: Good to know about the Motrin, I’ll have to pick more up. He for sure has a tooth coming through and a couple more look close behind.

@cake2017: He definitely eats lots during the day and shouldn’t be hungry at night. I’m hoping he is not sick/teething over Christmas break. Since we are both off I think this would be a good time to sleep train if we are going to do it.

Maybe try Motrin instead of Tylenol... our pedi says Tylenol doesn't really help with teething pain, but Motrin should.

@ALV91711: I would say being consistent is key. If you know he’s teething than that could be the issue for the additional wake ups? Ask doc if he can have motrin cause it’s better for inflammation. Lots of cold things when he’s awake.

The teething will cause that. Is one breaking through at the moment? That could be why.

Personally I wouldn’t bring into bed unless you want to keep it like that. He will only start to expect that and things will become harder.

It stinks but he may just be uncomfortable.

Extra teething toys, cold foods and motrin and tylenol helped my LO when he went through this.

Once he is done I would sleep train but be very consistent. He is old enough in my opinion to be sleeping well through the night especially if he’s getting all his nutrients during the day. However, sickness, cold etc causes wake ups!

@winter_wonder: I’m sure she will. DS1 is 6.5 and from about 3-5 he climbed into our bed at some point most nights. Eventually he stopped. Now he just has sleep overs on our floor every now and again.

@winter_wonder: I’m ok about that. Two night ago I did this. I was so tired from waking up I just took him into our guest bed. While I don’t know if he slept better it was nice not having physically get up. I may have to consider it as a temporary solution. How long did you co sleep for? Was it hard to transition her to her own bed?

How do you feel about sleeping with DS? We ended up doing that with DD out of sheer exhaustion. It was the only way I could get a decent amount of sleep.

Help! I’m at my wits end. DS2 has never been a great sleeper but in the last month things have gone downhill and this week even worse.

About a month ago he got a cold for two weeks then a week later a tooth. Now he has more teeth coming in, he only has 3. He went from waking 1-2 times a night to the last few night waking every couple hours.

I know his mouth is sore and I’ve tried Tylenol before bed or when he wakes up but that hasn’t seemed to help.

The other night I decided we’d do cio with checks but he cried/screamed on & off for 3 hours! I’m so exhausted.

He already goes to bed early (6-6:30) and has about a two hour nap. He’s up for the day around 5:30.

I don’t know what to do. Any advice or just commiseration would help.
