My twins are 22 months and we just came back from week long vacation where we coslept with them. The last few day back have been pretty bad. Lots of screaming from at least one of them. They are going to be really late and waking up late. I'm getting my au pair to wait them earlier. Maybe it will help.

My son did this as well, albeit a little later, and the thing was that he was ready to move out of the crib. I wouldn't have guessed this was the root of our issues, but once we moved him to a futon, the night screaming stopped.

@gingerbebe: yeah he's getting his last canine in right now and just started a language explosion. 3 new words yesterday! So I guess that's what is going on!

There's an 18 month regression and it's a sucky one - usually coincides with a language burst and canines too. It was wonky sleep and lots of epic tantrums for a month or two. It will pass!

Around that age my son started doing that. Would just scream so much at bed time.

I'd give Advil for teething about half hour before bed. Then put him in his crib and tell him you'll be outside the door. Leave the door open and talk to him through it. It took a few days and even weeks of saying "we are right outside the door" but we went from screaming to sleep every night to no crying. He also would scream in the night if he ever woke up and this trick got us over that too good luck!!

Our 18 mo has been such a good sleeper in the past and went to bed easily. He was going down at 8pm until we went on vacation to a different time zone and everything got screwed up. Since we have been back he will not go to sleep before nine, and it is a huge epic tantrum disaster every night. He is so miserable and freaks out if I put him in the crib. It ends up going like this: I try to hold him to soothe him but he is too hyped up and wants down so I put him in the crib and he cries and cries and cries and cries. Then I pick him up and hold him and he lays down on my shoulder and settles down, then I put him back in the crib and he cries and cries... repeat... until he finally passes out, usually on my shoulder. He is teething, but this started before he was teething this last tooth. It's driving me batty that he's going to sleep so late and I can't seem to get his bedtime back. And this business with fighting sleep from the boy who used to happily lay down in his crib! I just don't know what's going on. Anyone else have trouble getting their kid to go back to a regular bedtime once the bedtime is gotten screwed up by travel?
