@Kitkat: haha, yep, I was 8 months pregnant and it wasn’t the most comfortable thing in the world. My husband did it a few times, but I usually deal with all sleep issues because they want Mama and I am more patient.

Yes, this happened with our second. It lasted about a week and it was awful. He would just stand in his crib and cry until we came to get him and then we'd have to let him sleep with us that night. We tried to do extinction and I won't even tell you how long we let him cry. He would fall asleep standing up and then wake up and cry. Ugh, such a bad week. But then it was over just as fast.

@pachamama: this is apparently a desperate cry...my husband is definitely ok letting him cry a little, but he said this was beyond crying.

@josina: separation anxiety would make sense since he definitely has a daddy preference right now.

@Mrs. Goose: good to know it was short-lived. And I’m glad he’s been fine with me putting him to bed because I’m 8 months pregnant and not interested in laying on the floor :silly:

Same thing happened with my kid at 18 months. It lasted about a week. Maybe two. Didn’t impact during the night, just the actual falling asleep. I was heavily pregnant and lying on the floor beside the crib for 30-50 minutes. Fun times.

I think we went through something similar around that age and I attributed it to some separation anxiety because he would cry at daycare drop off even though he'd been there since 8 months.
We went through at least a month of laying with him at bedtime since we had to switch to a toddler bed at that time because he was climbing out.
Fingers crossed we don't get that with DD (15 months).

@Kitkat: We definitely went through something similar right around 18 months. He was doing his "I will cry and wail if you put me in this crib, even though I haven't done that in months" theatrics. At 18m I felt ok letting him cry a little. He cried 30 mins one night, 15 the night and a few whines the next and he's been great ever since. It wasn't a desperate cry- it was a very half-hearted protest. It was like he needed a little reminder that once we put him in the crib, that's it, my friend.

DS is almost 20 months. He has slept through the night consistently since about 12 months (11-12 hours). Bedtime usually involves both DH and me. I get his jammies on, DH brings him milk, I read him books, then DH comes back to help with teeth brushing and we both put him in the crib and say goodnight. Sometimes he’ll play around for awhile before going to sleep, but he never fusses/cries.

There is usually one night per week where either DH or I aren’t home for bedtime, so the other one has to do it all solo, which had been fine until recently. Twice for bedtime and once for a nap when DH has been solo, DS has screamed bloody murder in his crib until DH goes back in the room. He apparently calms down instantly when DH comes back, but he has to stay in there until DS falls asleep. He doesn’t pick him up, just rubs his back/hangs out in the rocking chair until he goes back to sleep, which has taken anywhere from 30-60 minutes. The good news is, once he’s asleep he’s been staying asleep the whole night.

Does this sound like the 18 month regression, just a little late? Or something else? I’m due with DS2 next month, so I’d like to get this figured out ASAP so DH is able to do bedtime solo with DS1 when needed.
