@winniebee: we have the exact problem! our room is right next to hers and we have to walk by it on the way to the bathroom in the morning on creaky hardwood floors. it's like all of a sudden she is hyper sensitive to EVERYTHING even with all the white noise machines in the world on full blast.

K threw all of her stuff out of the pack n play when we went out of town a few weeks ago. It was so odd to me since she doesn't throw things out of her crib.

I'm going to sing "la-la-la" as if I don't hear you and pretend I didn't read any of this. We have a vacation at 18 months and I'm praying that we whiz-bang fly through any upcoming regression.

I do remember C getting up really early and as a FTM we always went and got her right away. K seems content to sit in her crib as long as she has her pacifier. I want to break that habit though AFTER vacation.

@gingerbebe: oh we already have white noise machines and they are on full blast. we have an older home with hardwood floors and the boys' rooms are just feet away.... I usually do not respond MOTN and he usually does not wake MOTN. It's the early morning shit that I don't know really what to do. my kids don't sleep in, but 5:30 a.m. and earlier is just not cool.

@winniebee: Get some white noise machines and do what you can to keep him in his room. DS has been getting up somewhere between 3:30-5am this past week just like awake and pounding his head on his crib and making a racket and I just flat refuse to go get him. At some point he just goes back to sleep because he knows I'm not coming. I have a newborn due in mid-May and I have a second Marpac Dohm at the ready and I have DH run the bathroom fans and laundry room fans sometimes to drown out the noise. I can see the stinker on the monitor and let's be honest I'm awake when he's awake, but I ain't coming to get you until its within 30 minutes of your normal waketime.

@regberadaisy: he falls asleep on his own for bedtime and has for probably 4-5 months, so there's that. even if he complains, I leave him. I've left him at 445/5/530 until 6 but he gets mad and loud and the last thing I need is TWO kids up at that hour so I usually get him after 15 mins of fussing.

Yes. Bedtime was taking 1.5 hours so not sleeping till about 9:3 and still waking at 4:50-5:00 am. Every. Single. F-ing. Morning.

Knock on wood the long bedtime routine is over but the 5am wakeup looks like it's here to stay.

@winniebee: Oooh, I swear, we are also smack dab in the thick of the 18m sleep regression and it is BRUTAL!! LO has been a great sleeper since about 7 months with just a few short hiccups. Up until last week, he was in the crib by 7:20PM, and rolled around until he falls asleep (for 11 - 12 hours). In the morning, he would wake between 6:30 - 7:30AM and would roll around in his crib until we went to get him.

But about a week ago exactly at 18m, this all went to hell. Screaming bloody murder at bedtime the minute we close his door, lasting anywhere from 15 mins to an hour. Then multiple night wakings from 2AM - 6AM with more screaming and throwing his pacis/lovey out of the crib. Ugh.

I'm due in 2 weeks with LO2, and we were hoping to enjoy these last few weeks of precious sleep, but apparently LO1 has very different ideas. Fingers crossed that this will past FAST.

18 month regression is the only other regression we hit since the 4 month. And it's been brutal.
The waking early was the first step, and it did resolve itself. (He went from 7am wake to like 5/5:30 and now is back to 7am after 2-3 weeks). Now we are just coming out of the night-waking phase. Fortunately only once a night and went right back down with 2 mins of rocking but it was still hard to go from sttn for over a year to that.

I've heard 18 month is the hardest and most unavoidable. So I wouldn't be surprised if that's it.

Yeap, 18 month regression is real - all the moms in our birth month club are dealing with it too. Early wakings, random wakings in the middle of the night, weird naps, tantrums, etc. From what I hear it goes like 4-6 weeks on average, could be up to 2 months. We'll have really bad 1-2 weeks, then it will settle down, etc. Do what you can and if you think the skylight is affecting things, thumbtack some blackout material to it.

YES! My almost 19 month old has been waking early (5-6) for almost a month now. It seems like little noises near or outside of her door wake her up now

I don't know if it is, but ever since it got so light out , K has trouble falling asleep. We don't have black out curtains, so I just quickly put her to sleep then put her down. And this week so far she started getting up before 6am as well. No idea if it's regression, wonder week, or what!

The 18m regression started like that for us, then progressed to night wakings and wanting to be in our bed. He has finally (knocked on all the wood) gone back to his old self, except MASSIVE separation anxiety has come in it's place.

Did it strike your house? When? In what form?

R is 16.5 months and suddenly went from sleeping until 6:30 every morning, to waking at 5:30. 6 is sleeping in. We thought that transitioning to one nap was the issue, but now he's on one nap and still rising early. I'm wondering if this is some form of regression? The other possibility is he has a skylight in his room and it gets light here SO early now, probably by 5:30 it starts getting light. He has all his molars. I don't see any canines working through....

HELP!
