@Edelweiss: start the request NOW! It took me 4m to get to where we are and I still didn't see a neurologist and a dev ped. Appointments, meetings take soo long to schedule is ridiculous!! People keep telling me that she was ok (and she is) but she def needs the extra help. A small delay can be compound to a bigger one and it is like a snowball. She needs help YESTERDAY not in 45 days so we can schedule this and that...We may also resort to some private additional therapy if we do not see her achieving goals in a certain time. At first I was a little upset (kind of offended) that my absolutely perfect child was considered delayed but now that I see it in a different way and I could not believe how much I was fighting for more therapy. It was like an aha moment! Do you want to help her now, when she will never remember the struggle and ppl's stupid comments or later when in 1st grade a kid will "labeled" stupid, dumb, etc...? Because it can totally happen. So now I am joining all kind of FB/Yahoo groups, ordering books because I am NOT GIVING UP ON MY CHILDREN!!!! NEVER EVER!!!!

Much love to you honey. Your LO sounds very bright and full of potential. I understand how you feel as my 20 month old son is also in EI for delays and he also scored way above his age in several areas. Receptive language is a huge thing and very important so that's great that there are no issues there. Thank you for sharing your experience And helping those of us in your same boat feel less alone.

sounds like you are doing an amazing job keeping on top of things and doing everything you can--keep us updated on her progress!

and thank you for sharing--my almost 16-month old is not saying any real words and at his last appointment the ped and i mentioned seeking out EI if LO still isn't talking at the 18-month appointment.

Hi there,
so dd has been approved by EI for speech and feeding and OT for some fine/sensory issues.
OT delay is little (11m vs. 18m), SLP is a larger delay (6m vs. 18m). We are talking 1 word only (mamma), little babbling, most pointing. However, the receptive/cognitive is very high (22-24m).
The first meeting with the SLP went well. She will do speech (.30 x 1 a week) and feeding (1h x 1 a week). She appears to have low muscle tone in her upper lip (which we knew from PT and OT eval) and a combined hear loss. Classical language delay. At the moment, apraxia is not something that came up (my biggest concern). She seemed positive that therapy will work bc of the high receptive (she understand 2 languages and follow 1-2 direction commands).

Back to the ENT/Audiologist yesterday for a 3rd opinion. Audio is not bad, she can hear but muffled sounds and the 3 bones in her ears do not vibrate when air/sound is pushed in her ears. It is inevitable that she needs tubes and *maybe* adenoids (65% enlarged). We are not sure about the latter since this is the first time they were checked.

At the moment she has a massive ear infection, which we did not know anything about it until the ENT told us. Kids are really resilient.

So, another pedi app today to discuss the latest development and off at least for the tubes.

In the mean time her speech exercises are blowing a cotton ball with a straw (impossible at the moment bc she just chews on the straw) and blowing bubbles (just got this as per many SLP blog/sites/forums http://www.nationalautismresources.com/pustefix-bubble-bear-.html?gclid=CKyQy6CWmr4CFWIF7AodlmEAFw).

I hope my journey can help someone here. It is already difficult to raise a "normal" child, imagine one that has delays. Kudos to all you for thriving and educate yourself in this journey without directions.
