We are buying pizza for up to 100 guests- so I'm thinking in the $500 range for food.

Eeks. We plan to just have family and some close friends over to our house. I'll make the food and treats. I doubt it'll cost more than $200 and LO will be happy to be with her favorite people at her favorite place (home!).

Ours won't be until February but I anticipate about $275 for 25 people. We are ordering pizza, making our own cupcakes and are hosting it at our house. This doesn't include gifts, which we will spend $50-$75 on max. The pizza is the biggest expense.

I spent about 200, but did all the cooking and baking myself so mostly that was grocery money! About 40 people.

For my oldest we did pizza, cake (which we splurged on and it was $75 but our only "gift" to her), and clearance decorations at our house. We probably had about 15 people there. I bet we spent less than $200.
For my second, his party was combined with my daughter's third party. It was much bigger and elaborate, but only bc it was combined. We spent more money on that one, but I'm not sure how much.
For my third, we had a going away party combined with his first birthday. We got a grocery store cake and chick fil a catering. We probably spent about $150 and 20-25 people came. (I doubt we did decorations)

I think any time you're using a caterer the cost will be quite high. We did LO's 1st bday at home and spent around $250 all in (including alcohol for adults). I'm not a big fan of hugely elaborate parties for kids. As LO has gotten older, we have spent more for the venue so it's something fun for her, but we still go very low key on themes, decorations, favors, etc. My LO will never have a pinterest worthy party. I'd rather put more money in her 529.

We had it at my parents house... I spent roughly $200 because my parents and in-laws provided all the food! If you count the photo-shoot then $300.

I think around $400 each which included food, venue (for LO2), decorations (only did these for LO1), drinks, etc. I did a lot of it myself, but I am frugal and didn't think spending any more than that would be worth it for one day!

I just got back from the caterer's and HOLY CANNOLI!!! I'm daughter's 1st birthday is costing a small fortune and it's not even anything elaborate.

I'm curious what people generally spend on 1st birthday parties to see if I'm going completely overboard here. How much did you spend on how many guests did you have?
