Both kids were pre pandemic.

DS1 my mom came from out of town and we did cake, balloons & presents with the four of us.

DS2 has a summer birthday and we had a couple of our friends, my mom and the neighbours kid over for cupcakes. Super casual.

Both were fun and stress free.

We are planning a very small first bday for DD. Inviting one family over plus my MIL. We have a pool, but she won't be in it really, so we will get a kiddie pool/mini splash pad which will also be her gift. We might get a slip n slide for the older kids. Beach balls and spray bottles or squirt guns for the older kids. We have shade in our yard, but it's going to be TX in June, so everyone knows they'll be hot and to wear bathing suits. IDK if an outdoor party would work for you, but you could also plan a morning/ breakfast party at the park with donuts instead of cake (or with cake. Cake has no wrong time!)

@Jess1483: That is super cute!

We just had at-home parties for both LO's with family. DS had a football theme - the big 'one', and DD's was unicorn.
Our parties are pretty low-key but I love to decorate, make a cute cake, and have a few fun things for the kids like sticker kits and temporary tattoos.

Like this ;)

Actually, for my first, we had a big party with all his "friends." We had a strong Mama group at the time.

With #2, we had a few families over, mostly to eat cupcakes.

With #3, it was the beginning of the pandemic, so we just took photos. She turns 2 in a month, and we may have family friends and my parents over for an outside meal.

Congratulations!

With my oldest, we threw a huge party in our apartment. It started with kids entertainment (a musician) at 2pm. Non-parents were told they were welcome to come afterwards in time for cake. So, about half the party showed up about an hour into the party. We had cake, and people hung out for awhile. Everyone was still there at 5pm, so we ordered pizza. The party ended at 7pm!

Then, when my twins turned one (also pre-pandemic), we were in the middle of moving. Our lives were a complete zoo. We simply met the grandparents in a restaurant for brunch. That was it. I felt a little guilty, but I put a lot of effort into their second birthday last summer --bbq lunch on our porch with a LOT of balloons and two cakes!) -- when they were more into birthdays.

My little girl is turning 1 and I have no idea how to celebrate. It should be around 95 degrees where I live so a park might be too hot. Our house is being remodeled so a house party won't work. Also with covid we're trying to keep it small.
How did you celebrate your littles 1st birthday?
