I am not clear how they made the groups but she seemed to like it.</p> <p>And yes the specials rotate every day. Her kindergarten was technically half day so they only had shorter specials and now they have an hour a day between all the things (pe,<br /> Music, art, Spanish). They have a major turnover this year for 1st grade. Our teacher is new and she has so many gimmicks ! They have a "desk fairy" that will randomly come in and visit and leaves gifts for kids who keeps their desks clean. Then they have "Compliments" party -- when other teachers compliments their class while they are outside, they will flip one character over. If all characters are all flipped over they will have a party. Then they also hands out these "You are caught being awesome" notes that any 1st grade teacher will slip it to the student that is "caught being awesome". My son got it once at music class and he is so proud. And the Red, Yellow, Green, Purple cards which indicates their behaviors (eg. green is good and purple is excellant and teacher will send in a note home. Orange is someone that has a warning. Red will be pretty bad and teacher will notice parents). DS got an orange one day, and he told me the whole story. It is just the best.</p> <p>DS did comment to DH somewhere along the lines of school is boring, and he doesn't understand why he has to go because "he already knows everything". He was reading 4th grade level when kindergarten ended last year. This year he wrote on the class "questionnaire" he wanted to learn division, which we know they are not teaching this year. I am a little concerned but at the same time, I know there are a lot of crucial things, such as taking responsibility, time management, continue to get better at controlling his emotions ...etc. that he has to learn. I am also thinking he just wants to jump to 3rd grade because they have lockers and students can decorate them. I need to write our teacher about it. They use it school wide so we can get class updates or things for the whole school and pto. We used to get more photos last year but it is still helpful!</p> <p>We are doing well so far. I think we are about 4 weeks in. They are dividing the classes and rotating for math so that just started today.
