2-3-4 was the ONLY way we were successful. We found he could push the evening one longer (4.5 hours) as needed. If he was in a wonder week, we shortened all of them and added a nap until he was done.
He woke up at 7, slept at 9, woke up at 10, went down 1, woke up ant 2:30 (longest nap) and then stayed up until 7 or 8. He had to have that first nap early or life would be miserable.

@hilsy85: We have never been able to get him to fall asleep after only 2 in the morning, so ours is wake around 6:30 / nap around 9 (60-90 minutes) and then a second nap around 1/1:30 (60-90 minutes). He goes to bed at 6:30. So it's more of a 3/3/3.5 like @merryc .

We found that my kids do better on more of an even split, closer to 3-3-3, or 3-4-3. They can usually fall asleep ok after the 2 hours in the morning, but then it's harder at the end of the day. By stretching the morning awake time to about 3 hrs, the rest of the day goes better for us. Their longest awake stretch is typically the middle of the day, that way they don't fight the 2nd nap so much, and keeps them from being super far gone at bedtime. Mine typically sleep about 1.5 hours each nap, but this works ok even on 1 hr nap days, we sometimes just put them to bed a little earlier if they need it. Good luck!

The 2-3-4 schedule was working really well for us about 2 months ago, when LO began to transition to 2 naps. Now, however, his naps are too short for it to seem like it works. He only naps for about an hour, which means that he needs a 3rd nap to make it to bedtime. So for example, he'll wake up at 630, nap from 830-930, nap from 1230-130, but then I can't put him to bed at 530, so I'll put him down for another nap at 430...which he sometimes fights.

Has anyone had success with a 2-3-4 schedule with short naps? Any advice?
