We have a 2 bedroom (technically 2 and a tiny "study", which is directly connected to our room with no sound barrier). LO2 is 11 months, LO1 is 4. We didn't want to shake things up with LO1's sleep so we kept her situation the same (she has the 2nd bedroom to herself). LO2 slept in a rock n play by our bed until 3 months, then a bigger bassinet until 5 months, then we moved him into a mini crib in the "study" and he has been there ever since. I won't lie, it has been harder dealing with him then with LO1 as a baby, as we basically wake up as soon as he does since the sound is actually amplified between his "room" and ours. We are house hunting but are doubtful we will find anything before the spring. I *think* we will be ok keeping him in the mini crib until then but we will see.

We didn't use a rocking chair for either kid so I can't comment to that. I just had an armchair in LO1's room, and we put a loveseat in LO2's "room" for when I need to nurse.

We have a 3 bedroom house, but one bedroom belongs to my stepson, who is only here every other weekend. Our 26 month old and 2 month old share the 3rd bedroom. Baby has a bassinet in our room. Toddler has her own bed in her room, but usually ends up in our bed. Honestly, I haven’t really used a rocker with our 2nd baby, unlike with our first. I do 99% of nursing her on the living room couch.

My LO's are 23 months apart and will share a room at some point... DD is 8 months old and sleeps in a p&p in our room. She was in a R&P for 5 months, and I wasn't ready to move her to her crib in DS's room since he's a cuddler and I'm afraid he'll smother her MOTN.
I nurse her in bed, she's never really needed to be rocked, but I do have access to a glider in our living room.
I think we'll probably move her to her actual room around a year? Luckily she's a great sleeper, better than DS.

We have 2 kids in a two bedroom and our kids are 2 and 4. Although the girls theoretically share a room (two twins), DD2 has been a cosleeper most of her life and still ends up in our bed most nights.

She takes all naps in her bed with no problem, but we have 0 patience at night, so if she gets out of bed and comes to us (which happens basically always), she just gets in our bed. But st least she starts out in her own room.

Her crib was in our room till she was 1.5.

I don't roomshare, so I can't say anything about that. I had a chair for nursing in their bedroom. Once DS decided to climb the chair, we moved it out. Then, I nursed while sitting on the floor. DD was 4 months old and STTN, so it was only to put her down for naps and bedtime.

I forgot to mention that our room is also small and we have an armchair from the living room temporarily crammed in for ease of nursing newborn. Once it’s easier to nurse lying down and stuff like that, Well probably move it out. I am surprised how little my son is disturbed by the newborn, but I am sure that will change when she cries louder. :)

We’ve been home for four days. So far, my daughter is in the cosleeper, and my son is sleeping in our bed! Lol he was traumatized by the whole hospital experience of us being away, me for 3 nights and my husband for 2. Hoping to get him back into his room soon! I am planning to bedshare for about a year and then find space for baby in my son’s tiny room. Or move? My answer probably doesn’t help at all!

Lo2 was in a Bassinet in our room for about 6 months and I just nursed in bed, occasionally standing up to rock if she needed more. We use the glider now that she and lo1 are sharing a room but it makes traveling easier now that she doesn’t need it to sleep! Case in point we’re traveling now and she’s asleep on a pillow in my lap while I sit on a dining chair we moved into a walk in closet where her travel crib is set up lol

I couldn't get the rocker to fit in our bedroom. I could sneak in and use it sometimes or I would nurse in bed or on the sofa in the living room.

The boys started sharing a room at around 6 months and 2 years old. LO2 often finishes the night in our bed so as not to wake his brother early. It's impossible to get LO1 back to sleep if he wakes up after 4. They are 19 months apart.

We live in a two bedroom small apartment. DS was 18mo when new baby was born. She slept in our room and I just kept the rocking chair in DS room. I would nurse in bed at night and sometimes use the rocking chair in DS room for naps. She is now 6mo and we just moved her crib into a closet lol.

@agold: with our first her room wasn't ready (renovations) until she was 8 months old. The glider ended up in our living room where it still remains. I always just nursed in bed at night. Planning on doing the same when LO2 arrives in 4 months until she can share a room with big sister.

@Foodnerd81: I forgot about nursing in bed. I did that for a bit after delivering my first because, ummm, 4th degree tear and I really couldn't get out of bed easily. Ugh. Painful memories! But that could work for a while since new babies really just need to be nursed, right? Not really rocked.

@KT326: @codeitall: Moving the rocker to my room could work. I could move my night stand to the nursery. I do rock my girl still, but she's more flexible. Like I could rock her in my room and move her to her room to her crib I think.

@gingerbebe: Ha, no. Small house problems.

We were in a two bedroom condo until our younger one was 9 months old and the older one was 3. My older daughter has never been a good sleeper so I wasn’t willing to rock the boat and make them share when I knew we were moving soon anyway. The baby slept in our room, first in rock and play then a mini pack and play, until about 6 months, when we started waking each other up. Then we started putting her mini pack and play in the master bath for the night and just using the other bathroom while she was sleeping- ridiculous but it worked. The glider has always been in the living room because that’s where we had room for it, so I usually just nursed sitting up in bed. Then if she wouldn’t fall right back asleep DH would take her out to the living room to rock her in the glider and I could go back to sleep. I admit once we moved, it was really nice to finally have the glider to nurse in once we moved to our house.

You literally just described my last year. We have a two bedroom apt with two kids. Here's what we've done so far:

Bedshared for the first 6 months
Attempted to have DD share with 2.5 DS (fail)
Bedshared again for next two months with intermittent attempts at the pack and play at the foot of the bed.

Honestly, I've been looking for a 3 bedroom and like you am just too picky.

DD is a super light sleeper (even daycare has commented on it) so she doesn't sleep well with her brother or in our room when she isn't snuggled up on me.

So while I originally had the rocking chair literally between the wall and my bed (who needs a nightstand anyway) once I realized that I wasn't using it, it moved to DS' room. Once we move out and she has her own room, it will have the rocking chair, but for now, it isn't even next to her crib :bummed:

We moved the rocking chair into our room. It was a tight squeeze to fit everything in there but I knew I would want it for the baby.

Now DS2 is 10 months old and sharing a room with DS1. I moved the rocking chair back to their room when I moved DS2.

I'm currently in a 2 bedroom house. My 14 month old has her own room. I have a new baby on the way. My daughter will be 21 months when the new baby comes. Rocking chair is in the second bedroom. I intend for new baby to sleep by my bed for 6 months, but I won't have access to rocker when daughter is sleeping. I'm actively looking for a new house, but I'm picky and things aren't popping up often so I'm not sure when the move will occur.

For those of you with two bedrooms, how did you handle the sleeping and rocking and whatever else of the new baby if new baby doesn't have his/her own room?
