I never thought of removing one of the captain chairs, that's a good idea!

@oliviaoblivia: You didn't have any troubles fitting the two convertible seats and 1 bucket seat all in the row? That was in the middle row and not the back row I'm assuming?

I guess it will just take some playing around with once we have all three kids here, thanks for all the suggestions!

We have a Sienna and have three rear facing convertibles right now.
When the baby was still in the bucket I actually had her in the row with the two convertibles in the middle. I just put the baby in through the trunk.
Now my oldest (3y9m) is in the rear drivers side spot. She buckles her chest clip and I open the trunk and do her crotch buckle. She climbs in under the middle row passenger side convertible. That seat is pushed all the way back. My 1y9m is in the driver side convertible. She also climbs in through the passenger side. We took out the middle row center seat. When the older two are in, I pull the passenger seat forward and buckle in my nine month old.
Works well and there's space for an adult or two in the back still.

Oh the idea of removing a captain chair is a good one. I wonder if that's possible in our SUV. Never thought of that.

If you can't do three across in the middle I would consider putting both RF convertibles in the back.

I know a lot of people who pull out a captain's chair and put two in the back row. One rear facing convertible in middle, the other convertible behind it in the back row, and the infant on the other side in the back. Then you can buckle the convertible in the back before clicking the infant seat in. Then when your oldest goes forward facing put them at seat in the back and the youngest in the middle.

Can you do 3 across in the middle? I'm not sure how to avoid buckling from/through the back otherwise. I'm planning to put the infant and RF convertible in the middle row and switch my oldest to FF in the middle of the back row, but she'll be 4.5 by then. I had also considered pulling out a captains chair so I could easily move around in there and putting the two convertibles RF in the back, if #3 had come sooner.

ETA: we have an odyssey, if that makes a difference.

I'm starting to wonder what I will do when the new baby comes. We have a toyota sienna and right now I have both girls rear facing in the middle row. I'd like to keep my oldest rear facing ( she will be 3.5 ) until she hits the 45 pound limit ( she's not even 30 pounds yet, she's little.)
I guess the easiest thing would be to move my oldest to the back, have her climb through, and then I would go through the back trunk to buckle her in? Even if I did have her forward facing, I'd still have to crawl through the back to buckle her in right? What do you do if you have 3 seats in a van?
