I have 2 first names - with a hyphen, then 2 middle names - neither short either.
It’s never been a problem on official forms - except for running out of room occasionally

I don’t think 2 is a big deal. I think the only time we use full names is on passports or legal documents. My DH has two middle names and it’s the norm in his culture. I once worked with a woman who had something like 6 middle names and a multi-word last name. I wouldn’t have believed it but I saw her passport.

@CatchAFallingStar: I have 2 middles as do all 3 of my LOs. Nbd to us. When it doesn't fit on a form we always use the first of them, and for middle initial it's the first middle initial. (I think technically it's all considered one middle name to the govt, just with spaces, or something like that..)

I also wonder what she'd do when she got married. If she takes her husband's name...it could be hard to figure out which of her four names to drop.

I have two legal first names. When I was little, I went by FirstMiddle until I got to school and the middle name was dropped. But it was never dropped by family. When I got married, I didn't want to hyphenate but I didn't want to drop any names, so I made my middle name part of my legal first name.

It can get confusing for "official" things like credit cards, insurance, and doctors to know who has me down as what name.

Personally, I'd go with the name that means the most.

DH has two middles and we're giving our third (and last) child 2 middle names as well. our first daughter's middle name is an off shoot of one of mine, 2nd daughter's middle is one of DH's middles and we decided that the third child will have two middles like DH (he's a twin, but basically treated like the baby of the family! :P )

He has had to do LOTS of paperwork over the years and there is never an issue of space, but if there is a middle initial option, we put the first middle initial.

I would go wth Gabrielle and only do one, since it sounds like it’s more important to him.

I had one middle name growing up and moved my maiden name to a second middle name when I took my husbands name. It’s not a big deal but on my drivers license it has my name as First MM Last (middle middle). So when I book travel I have to make sure I put my name that way if I’ll be using my license as ID.

And, say your daughter one day wants to take her spouse’s last name but keep her maiden. She would have to drop at least one middle name or have three!

That said I don’t think it would be a big deal weather way.

@Truth Bombs: I monogram things with First Middle Last and leave out my maiden/ second middle.

@CatchAFallingStar: My only issue would be that one daughter only has one middle name and the other has two. Maybe I was a petty kid, but that totally would have bothered me. Like, "why is my sister so important that she gets two middle names?" I LOVE Adeline, but I would go with Reese Gabrielle even if it doesn't have the same "ring" to it.

I have three middle names (my given middle, my confirmation, and my maiden). Legally I go by my maiden as my middle because it is ridiculously complicated to have multiple middle names for some paper work. I recommend having one middle for legal purposes, but multiple for what you call her or just Gabrielle.

I get the symmetry of having a Grandmother's name as a middle name for each of your daughters but if using Adeline isn't as important to you then I think it might be easiest to drop it in favor of Gabrielle. They will still both have middle names in honor of a beloved family member.

Like many people above have mentioned I elected to move my maiden name to a second middle name and besides getting some double takes when TSA looks at my license it hasn't caused any issues. I only use my first middle name on forms unless my full legal name is required.

@gingerbebe: I like Gabriella!

My oldest nephew has two and his brother and sister only have one. Never been a big deal for anyone. I say do what you want to. How often do people use their middle names anyway? The only time I do is when someone is in trouble. For my nephew, if we made it to his second middle name he knew he was in really big trouble!

I have two now, and it's not a big deal. I didn't drop any names when I took my husband's last name--I just moved my maiden name to legally be my second middle name. It doesn't cause any issues, since middle names aren't usually used, even on paperwork anyway. Like my driver's license is just my first and last, same with my credit card and debit card and basically everything. I think only my SS card has all 4 names printed on it.

My daughter has 2 middle names (both our mother’s names) and 26 total letters in her full name and it has literally never been a problem or even any hassle. No problems registering for school, flying (both domestically and internationally), multiple different doctor’s offices, on taxes, etc. Never had any questions or issues. Depending on the space availability on official forms and whatnot, it’s either usually shortened to just the first middle name, or HL, the initials of both. So, first name HL last name.

I personally don't like the 2 middle names but my nephew has 2 as does my husband. Usually the 2nd name gets dropped except on official paperwork.
I guess it's no different than having a name but going by a shorter version like I do. Confusing for paperwork but mostly a non-issue.

I had a friend growing up that had two middle names. He didn't have any issues other than sometimes on forms, both names wouldn't fit. In that case, he used just the first middle name.

Because of this, I actually moved my maiden name to a 2nd middle name when I got married because I wanted to keep it, but I only wanted one last name (and I wanted to take my husbands last name so I'd have the same last name as our kids). It's only been a couple years, but so far, I've been really happy with my choice. All in all, my name has 25 letters.

I haven't had any hassles at all yet- other than when I wanted to get a monogram on a bag I bought and I had to use a different font because the way the initials font was set up, you could only have 3 letters. (totally not an issue, just pointing out the only time it has even come up for me).
