I worked till the day I went into labor with my first, and I basically stopped working three days before I had my second (about a week before my actual due date, though I'd been having contractions for a while and thought I'd go a few days earlier).<br /> I went back to work full time after 9 weeks with LO#1, because I found the newborn period to be really stressful and I was actually kind of relieved to have more autonomy when I went back to work. After LO#2, I went back to work 2 days/week when LO#2 was only 6 weeks old, and then I started 3 days/week when he was 12 weeks old, and at 16 weeks I'll be back to my normal schedule. He's 14 weeks now, and I actually really liked this schedule. I didn't feel like I was getting too behind at work, and it was nice to have those outlets for thinking about something other than baby, and seeing work colleagues and friends. But I've really loved having more time home with LO#2. With DD, I was induced the day before my EDD (on a Thursday). I worked from home the few days leading up to that and returned at 8 weeks PP. With DS, I was induced exactly one week before my EDD (a Sunday) and worked through the Friday before. But directed it to other Canadian Mom as our time off differs. I went off early (28w) with #1 and was back just before she turned 1. This time I hope to work closer to due date (38w or so) but then not go back until #2 is 15m or so.</p> <p>I think the most important thing for you is what experience you want more of? More time with #1 while she is an only child still, or more time with #2?</p> <p>If you take the PTO, when will you get more PTO? The first time around, I pretty much worked up until I delivered (I work from home, so I don't have to worry about being on my feet, commuting, etc.) and then came back about a month early from leave. I "only" took the 6 weeks disability and 6 weeks CA Paid Family Leave (didn't take my 4 weeks of PTO like I had planned).</p> <p>This time around, I was planning on working up until I deliver and most likely taking my full leave (6 weeks + 6 weeks + PTO), but some of my friends are saying that I should take off sooner before LO #2 gets here. A few ladies have said they enjoyed taking it slow during those last few weeks, and having that extra time to bond with LO #1 while s/he is still an "only child." </p> <p>So... just curious as to how you ladies did it or are planning on going at it! I'm not due until the first week of May, so I have plenty of time to notify my employer, but it comes down to starting my leave in early April or whenever I go into labor. </p>
