@Kulala: I'm glad to hear this is working for you. We discovered that for my DD rocking was too stimulating for her and so once we stopped doing that she fell asleep much easier!

@Portboston: Me too I hope she can keep it up. I woke her up at 11:40am (after 1 hour 40 min of nap) and fed her until 12:45pm. Then she played in her gym for 10 min and we went out for a walk and came back at 1:25pm.

I have just put her down in her crib when her eyes were open, and again with about 1-2 minutes of rocking. Hopefully it works again this time! :)

Thanks everyone! All are very great suggestions! I'm going to try something new today... trying to give her a bit more playtime and reduce the hours of naps.

@Portboston: I honestly didn't think of stop rocking her because she is so used to being rocked... my hubby and I have been thinking of ways of weaning her off from rocking. But since you mentioned it, I actually did an experiment this morning.

She got up at 8:10 this morning, as usual I gave her 5 ounces of breast milk. To my surprise, she finished the whole bottle very fast and I gave her 1 more ounce and she ate it all. Last night was the same... she consumed 6 ounces. I think she is ready for more milk because of a bigger stomach. Afterwards, I let her play in her baby gym until 9:45am. She started to fuss a bit and I put her down to sleep. Without much complaint, it took me only 2 min to gently cuddle / rock her and I put her down mostly awake and she fell asleep on her own almost immediately!!!!!!! (I was so surprised and happy).

I will test this approach more, but I think the longer awake time (1hr 45 min - 2hrs) and more milk (6 ounces) definitely worked this morning. And because the timing was right, she fell asleep on her own.

@Kulala: Those signs that you mentioned were signs of overtiredness in my son at that age...meaning, if I saw them, he was past the window of sleeping but he still needed the sleep. The trick was trying to get him down before he showed those signs.

It could definitely be that her awake time is starting to get longer. I wouldn't go much past 1.5 hrs though. Maybe try an extra 15 min. Also, have you tried just putting her down without rocking? My LO was so difficult to get to sleep until we let him put himself to sleep!

Eta- I agree that she might be ready to kick the 4th nap. You could try eliminating it and moving bedtime up slightly.

Some people find the 2-3-4 pattern helpful - 2 hours awake before first nap, the. 3 hours, then 4 hours. Addituonally , she probably only needs 3 naps by now and those last two are pretty late. At that age, LOs average around 13-16 hours of sleep. I think you might be expecting more napping than she truly needs.

Hello everyone. I'm having some issues here and was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions. My baby is now 10 weeks old. Generally she has no problem with sleeping at night (10:30pm - 8:30am) and the first nap (10am - 12pm).

But she always have problem with the 2nd, 3rd & 4th naps, which usually takes place 1:30-3, 4:30-6 and 7:30-9.

I always use white noise, dim the light / close the curtains, sing 1 pre-nap time song, give her a full feed, change her diaper, swaddle her and rock her before putting her in the crib. I normally feed her for 1 hour, 10 min burping, 5-10 min activity and then is nap time. The bottom line is I always put her down within 1.5 hours after she is awake.

The problem is she doesn't want to nap in the afternoon... sometimes she shows signs of tiredness (e.g. yawning, rubbing eyes) and sometimes no signs at all. She used to like being rocked to fall asleep, but these days rocking doesn't seem to work for afternoon naps. She either doesn't want to close her eyes or simply has difficulty in keeping her eyes closed.

Is it normal for babies around this age to be like this? Is it a sign that her awake time is getting longer?
