Awe I felt the same way! Just give her lots of love and kisses on those little legs. My LO cried and I couldn't calm her down for awhile :( she was fussy that night and we gave her the tylenol to help her sleep but she was her usual smiley self by the morning.

@MarieJ: So glad she's doing well!!! :) I always use shots days as an excuse to get extra snuggles from the love bug :)

@scg00387: Yes, I'm ALL about the less invasive way to start with and then we can take the big jump if necessary :)

@babyjmama: we have a temporal but ped said it wasn't accurate until older but that sounds like a less invasive way to test and then go to rectally! Def not tmi thank you!

my LO screamed when she got hers but calmed down pretty quickly. its so sad when they get any type of shot because they are so shocked. one minute they are just cooing and babbling and the next, their little face crumples up and the big tears come out! anyway. my LO napped for a long time after hers and then when she woke up she was screaming in pain! oh i felt so bad. her thigh was all swollen and hot to the touch. we gave her infant tylenol and then a warm bath and massaged her leg. then she was fine! no fever either.

@scg00387: I totally suggest the preventative tylenol. As far as temp readings what we do is use 2 diff thermometers. We have a temporal thermometer and if it gives us a high reading we use the rectal. I bought the thermometer that's specifically for rectal use (it has a short "stick" so you really can't go too far, which I was terrified of) and I always use a little lubricant on the tip so it goes in smooth. Sorry if that's TMI but I wish someone had given me those tips! :)

@babyjmama: eee I am so nervous about the fever! We've only tried to take his temperature one other time rectally and even though he was good about it, I'm not confident in my ability to get an accurate reading! Our ped said they'd give preventative Tylenol and I think I'm going to do that

I was surprisingly okay with it. It wasn't a blast, but I feel like she was in my arms and I was comforting her within seconds. I know how important the shots are for her, so that helped me not cry. She got fussy for about an hour a few hours later. We gave her tylenol and she was fine. She slept really well that night and was her usual self the next day.

@scg00387: J's fever kept rising after steady doses of tylenol, cold compress, cool bath, etc etc and they just wanted to make sure he wasn't having any sort of allergic reaction to his shots, but all the rest of his shots have gone fine, thank goodness!

ETA: It was after hours, so we couldn't just take him in to have the ped check on him...the on-call ped suggested that we take him (I'd been talking to her every 45 min for a few hours). I wasn't just overreacting ;)

For us the 2 month shots were the worst (he has had 2mo, 4mo and 6mo shots)--the 2 month ones we had to give Tylenol every 4 hours for a full day and we couldn't touch his legs.
The 4 month shots we gave him Tylenol once that day and once the next.
6 month shots--no Tylenol at all.

@MarieJ: I'll try to keep an eye out for this thread tonight, just in case you have questions. Main thing is, if/when you get to the point that you need to talk to the doctor don't feel like you're bothering them. Trust me, they would rather you check in on them than get into hot water and it be too late. (TOTALLY not trying to freak you out btw, just saying not to hesitate if you feel like you have questions to ask)

@MarieJ: Oh you poor thing :( I'm so sorry it was so stressful!! J did develop a fever, if your LO does try a few different things. We wanted to snuggle him but that could increase his temp. so we would put him between us on our bed and just hold his hands but he wasn't fussy for the most part. If necessary a cool wash cloth on the forehead helps, then possibly a bath. Make sure to watch her diapers and that she's still having wet diapers, our ped said he would be much more concerned about his fever if he wasn't having wet diapers regularly.

Good luck tonight!!!!

We just got back home from K's 2 month check up where she received her 2 month vaccinations. Thankfully, DH surprised us and met us at the appointment because I was a mess. I think I cried more than she did. It just broke my heart to hear her yelling in pain. Of course, I nursed her directly after the shots and she seemed a little better.

I picked up some infant Tylenol on the way home just in case she gets a fever sometime tonight, but thankfully, so far so good.

How were you after your LO's 2 month shots? Did your LO fuss a lot afterwards or develop a fever? Just trying to prepare myself for tonight.
