So today I adjusted my pump times and just pumped twice and got more than I do during my three regular times. I will see if this trend continues--that would be awesome!

I pump twice at work 9:30 and 1:30 (8-4:30 work schedule) I've always done only twice at work though. I usually pump once more at night too. For the most part I seem to get enough with just the two times. On a couple occasions I have pumped a third time at the end of the work day but I have only gotten a few oz. The morning pump seems to be the most important since I get the most out of that session.

I'm not pumping at work, but I EP. I found that past a certain point, regardless of the number of pumps, I made the same amount. Basically, I was pumping 6 X a day...then one day could only do 5 and got the same amount. I stuck with it and the supply stayed the same then I tested the waters with 4 X a day and yup, same output. I tried 3 a few times and noticed a few ounces less, so I'm sticking with 4.

I would track your pumping for a few days at 3 X and a few days at 2 X. If there is a significant difference that makes 3 X worth it, then maybe squeeze it in?

@bhbee: I'm not getting enough, but That third session was barely two ounces. I wonder if I spread out two sessions (today I just did 9:30 and 12:30) if that would cover the different--like 9:30 and 2 or something like that?
@Adira: Hmmm perhaps I should try to squeeze a quick pump in before I leave.
@Foodnerd81: T--I just had a great mental image of people freaking out at me hand pumping on the red line :)
@Mrs. High Heels: How many oz was DS taking at the bottle feeds? I wonder if I should try something like that and up to OZ per bottle. I know in the AM when he feeds he must get a ton because he isn't hungry for his first bottle for a long time after, and when I get home we have a nice long nursing session. That might actually work well for us.

I'm in a similar situation, and didn't want to pump right before leaving work, so dropped to 2 pumps per day. It worked out because by 6 months, DS was feeding only 4x a day anyway (every 4 hours). So I nurse morning and night, and he gets two MOTD feedings.

I pumped about the same amount that I did at 2x a day as I did with 3x a day. So instead of pumping multiple times and getting less ounces each session, I ended up with one pumping session but pumping out more ounces in that session.

I have to pump 3x. I feed my baby when she wakes up at about 7:15 am, then pump 3x at work - 9:45, 12:45, and 3:45. I feed her again at home at about 5:45/6:00 pm, then again before bed at 7:00 pm.

The days I have pumped 2x (because of meetings or something), I get less milk overall. I need every drop I can get, so 3x it is! It is worth noting, however, that I do NOT pump at home. Many of my friends pump once at home, so only do 2x at work. For me, that's not worth it, and the timing never seems right.

So you drive or take the t? And does he eat as soon as you get home? If you drive would you be able to pump in the car before leaving?

I haven't pumped at work, that just struck me as something that could allow a little extra milk in the day.

I put 2x at work: 11:00 and 3:30. I only pump 3x if I'm having low output and need a boost. For the most part, 2x works great!

But I do pump right before work too, so I do pump the same amount of times that Xander eats.

I did something similar to your 2 pumping sessions because I also got home by 5 (I fed right before I left and right when I got home). Like you I didn't want to pump right before I went home, and LO only got two bottles so it worked out. Are you getting enough in 2 pumping sessions? I usually got very little if I did a third session anyway, my supply went down throughout the day.

J is 6 months old and I started back to work 2 weeks ago. With my schedule (8-4) and the two other women using the pump room, the timing of my pumps has been 9:30, 12:30 and 3:30, but it has become clear that the 3:30 pump really doesn't work out since I am basically leaving work at 3:30 to pump then going home. The past two days I have just done 2 pumps while I try to figure this out. The other two women pump at 2:30/3, so pumping earlier wouldn't really work, and they are unable to shift up even 15 minutes so that I could come back to my desk even briefly.

When you went from 3 pumps to 2, did you notice a significant change in the amount you pumped total? I am thinking that I could pump at 9:30 and 1:30, then feed baby when I got home around 5, so it would never be more than 4 hours between pumping or feeding. What would you do in my situation?

I should note: over the weekend we began supplementing with formula as we'd exhausted my freezer supply. Yesterday and today we haven't needed any supplement, but we are just taking it day by day.
