DD went to daycare at 10 months and I was sooo nervous about her sleep! Yeah, her sleep was crummy for a while but now she sleeps great. They really adapt so amazingly! She goes to sleep in a crib by herself there but still doesn't at home!

Thanks, all! I'll try just not to worry...and leave it to the baby and the professionals.

My LO is almost 15 months and her class went down to one nap about a month ago. At home she was sometimes taking one long nap, sometimes two shorter ones and now she's basically on one nap at home too but she sleeps much longer (3 hours) on the weekends than at day care (1 hr 45 min on average). She is definitely tired at the end of the day and like another poster said she generally goes to bed earlier during the week but it works out ok. I wish she could get a more solid nap in during the day but I also understand that this is just one of the things that comes with sending your kid to daycare.

My DD is 13.5 months and has pretty much never taken more than one nap at daycare, but at home she's still taking two long naps per day. She just adjusts to the different environment when she's there and has to kind of suck it up. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I could always tell when DD had a bad time with the nap schedule (or lack of) at daycare because she would come home smelling like the teacher's perfume - so I knew she had been held for a long time. Now she does a lot better, but she still comes home pretty much ready to go right to sleep after dinner.

My 13 mo's been in daycare for awhile, but she recently went from one room where they were taking two naps to the 1 year old room, where they are down to one nap.

I let the daycare teachers handle it. At first, he may struggle a bit with it. Ask the teachers what happens if he won't go to sleep in his crib. Do they take him out and let him play? Do they let him cry and fuss? That would be important to me.

After a few days, he'll see all the other kids going down, and he'll start doing the same. They tire them out pretty well before that nap, too, so that helps.

You may notice you need to move his bedtime a little earlier in the evenings for those nights.

We still do two naps on the weekends.

Ive always just said let daycare handle it. its a totally new environment, a totally new level of stimulation, and a lot of peer pressure (aka they will nap when all the other kids nap).

DS will be starting "school" very shortly after his first birthday and the classroom is on a 1 nap per day schedule (around 12:30 or so?), though I'm told they allow the kids to have a morning nap as needed.

Right now I only work part-time, so will only need to have him attending for one full week out of the month, but plan to have him attend part-time for some continuity.

That said, has anyone else had their kid start daycare at 12mos...and if so, how did you handle naps? Honestly, I don't know how naps will go period, since my little guy likes to keep going until...I'm not really sure what...we've always given him some lead time (based on wake times) to wind down and to ensure that he naps! Should I see if I can transition him early? Or just count on him adjusting to sleep at daycare the best he can and follow his lead when it's time to switch to 1 nap?
