@SproutBee: we are still working out our eating and sleeping schedule- sometimes she just isn't hungry enough for a good lunch before but I don't want her to wake up hungry. I think he will get used to it and the naps will lengthen as he does.

Little guy always cries/screams when he wakes up, so there's no leaving him there quietly. If I left him alone, it'd be a CIO for a "nap awakening", which I'm not sure is even a thing. Or is maybe just called torture.

At daycare, they feed him lunch beforehand, and home it's been hit or miss but I def need to make sure we do it.

Hoping he'll figure it out (or maybe will get better when his little cold passes?) cause I can't imagine surviving full days with only one 40 min break!!!

Could you try leaving him in his crib for a little longer after the 40 minute point, unless he's crying? We did the opposite to @Foodnerd81: and just moved the nap from 930 to 1130 one day and it was fine. I can understand him napping less at daycare because of noise/distractions etc. so maybe you could try training him a little at home.

One other thing...when we went to one nap, we did lunch before the nap so she wouldn't wake up hungry..is your guy eating enough beforehand for lunch or snack?

I gradually pushed the morning nap back, instead of going straight from 9:30 to noon. But still we had a week or two with crap naps. Now she is usually good for 1.5 hours at least. It just takes a little time. In the meantime... Coffee (for mom. Not baby).

Just looking for a little advice/encouragement here...

My LO is 14 months old and moving to the toddler room at daycare where they only do one nap (around 12:30). My guy has always been a crap napper, but had been doing well with one 1.5 hr am nap and one 40 min pm nap. The problem is that whenever we've tried one later (12:30) nap at daycare or home, he only sleeps for 40 min! That's not enough sleep if it's his only nap! Just getting depressed when I see that all the other toddlers are sleeping 2-3 hrs except for my little guy, who they have to rush away to not wake up the others.

Will his nap naturally lengthen like I've read about? Or should I "nap train" him at home and not get him out of his crib until a total 1-1.5 hrs have passed? He puts himself to sleep, but teaching him that didn't seem to ever lengthen his naps.

I just don't understand why he had been doing one longer nap a day pretty regularly on the two nap schedule, but can't on the one nap schedule...
