There's a 23 month gap between DD1 and DD2 and a 30 month gap between DD2 and DS. They'll all be two grades apart.

My sister and I are 19 months and one grade apart. We were (and are) super close, but I think she struggled with feeling like she was in my shadow a bit. There are pluses and minuses for the kids either way, I think. I do think it's easier as the parent to have them only one year apart!

My kids are 18 months apart, but because my oldest has an August birthday (cut off is Sept 1) they will be two grades apart. I really want them to only be one grade apart, but unless we hold back our oldest, it won't happen. I see no reason to hold him back other than our own personal preference for grade spacing.

@farawayyama: whoa. I know you hafta do what is best for each kiddo, but having twins in different grades would be a tough call for me! (Not that I have twins but I see the twin relationship between DH and SIL)

My oldest is April and second is February. 22 mo apart and two grades apart.

My second is February and my third will be January (most likely). 23 mo and two grades apart.

My sister is 18 mo older and we were one grade apart (I am an October bday and was always one of the youngest). I liked it for the most part having the same friends and being able to participate in things together. We were also bffs!

This is more about parenting than the grade gap but.. My parents always made me do what she was doing though. She would choose activities she likes and I'd just do the same. We both did dance at one point and I loved it and I don't think she did. We both stopped after a little because she "had too much homework" (uh, in 4th grade). Now looking back she probably just didn't like it and my parents just let her take the lead. Now that I'm writing this all out maybe being a little separated from her might have been nice haha. But again I'm sure it was the parenting..

My sister and I are one year apart. We were always one year apart in school. The only negative I recall is that my sister didn't particularly like that she entered each grade with expectations already set about her. I did a little bit better than her academically, so the expectations kind of bothered her.
It wasn't a huge deal, though, and there were no other issues being one year apart.

As a parent, I would appreciate having kids in the same school almost every year. Mine will be two grades apart, and this factor was part of our decision to have kids close in age.

Mine our almost 19 months apart and the cutoff in NYC for public school is the calendar year, so they will be one grade off with a Feb birthday and an Sept birthday. If LO2 doesn't make a fall cut off date they will be two year apart. LO1 being one of the oldest in his class and LO2 in the middle.

I don't think anything would have been different between one grade or two, will have a few opportunities for same teams later in elementary school, but that's about it!

I'm 15 months younger than my sister and we were one grade apart. She has an August birthday and was redshirted and I have a November birthday. From the parent's perspective, there are some definite perks. Less time where there are two different drop-offs, etc. I think there were also some advantages for me, too. Being so close in age, I knew what to expect with teachers, assignments, social things, etc. It made transition years easier, too. I remember starting 9th grade at a new school and knowing a ton of people on day 1. I honestly think there was more good than bad and that's coming from the sibling following on the first kid's coat tails.

ETA: We also went to the same college, lived in the same dorm, etc. We were close and I don't think the older sibling minded it either...

My oldest is entering kinder in the fall and my younger one will essentially have two more years of montessori since she won't be kinder eligible until she is 5 in 2019. This would make them two grades apart, but I really much prefer them to only be one grade apart!! My older is entering kinder early, so if it doesn't go over well, we'll retain him and then they will be one year apart in grade levels.

I never looked down the road much before getting pregnant with our third though, because they will be 5 and 3.5 years apart. So eventually it will be elementary school, middle school, high school. :bummed:

my first two (boys) are 16 months apart and one school year apart. It is definitely a *good* thing :). they get along with the same friends, toys/learning are at the same level, they can join some of the same summer camps/sport teams/swim+music lessons, and I can sort of teach them new things at the same or similar level. Of course there are still differences in maturity, physical ability, + learning, but overall they love being with each other and it's worked well! their younger sister is two years younger exactly than the middle one, and she seems soooooo much younger! but not for long, probably :).

ETA ages right now are 5, 3.5, 1.5

Mine are 20 months apart and should be only 1 grade apart because of the way their birthdays fall. Cutoff in our town is August 31. My oldest has a September birthday and my second's is in May. The problem is that holding kids back is really popular in my town and people are doing it as early as May. I think that's crazy and we absolutely would send our second on time but he is not at all advanced for his age and I would hate for him to be a full year younger than a lot of kids. We're going to wait to see how he does with Pre-K and how his brother handles K the transition to K before making any decisions. What is also annoying is that our third also has a September birthday so he will be 3 years behind our second even though they are less than 2.5 years apart. I would prefer for there to be 2 years between all of them so I'm on the fence about what to do with our second.

DS1 and DS2 are 20 months apart and they'll be one grade apart in school (November and August birthdays, so DS1 will be one of the oldest and DS2 will be one of the youngest in the next grade with an Aug 31 cut off). DS2 happened a month earlier than planned- I originally wanted them a minimum of two grades apart.

DS1 and DD are exactly 21 months apart and they'll be 2 grades apart (Aug and May birthdays).

When they're all in high school, they'll be in 9th, 11th, and 12th grades 😳

My girls will be right at 2 years apart. My first was born at the end of august, and my second is due the very beginning of September. Depending on if baby sister is born before or after the cutoff, and whether we start each girl when they turn 5, or 6, we could have 3, 2, or only one year.

mine are 20.5 months apart and 1 grade level apart. dd (our oldest) is a nov baby and ds is an aug baby so he's right before the cutoff which is sept in our school district. we don't plan to hold him back. the main reason we aren't holding him back is he'd be bored. socially and academically he will do better with older kids. it'll be interesting though. i do worry about challenges being so close in grade level. ds is pretty charming, outgoing, and is able to play with kids easily where as dd is more timid and reserved. so i don't want her to feel like hes overshadowing her. right now at preschool i see it a little bit but for the most part they both play with their friends separately so hopefully it stays that way in grade school where they're both independent with their own friends, sports, academics.

DS1 and DS2 are 20 months apart. DS1 is a September birthday and DS2 is a May birthday, so if we went with a public school, they would only be 1 year apart in school.

I am very big on birth order, so I find this to be kind of a turn off. My eldest is just about 2 years older than his brother, so why shouldn't he be 2 grades ahead? We're planning on sending our kids to a local private school so it wont be an issue, but yeah, I definitely would have considered doing a year in private kinder and transferring to a public 1st grade if we wanted to go public.

This, of course, is all based on readiness. If my eldest son needed to be held back a year, we'd obviously do that. But he was born September 6th, so he's literally a week short of the cut off, so it grinded my gears a bit to hold him back over a week if he didn't need it.

i really do think it depends on the kid! the october birthday would be pretty set (at least in our school district) and the august very on the cusp, so i would see how they do. someone has to be the youngest and if DD2 tracks well, i would send her in on time, but if there were any question, i wouldn't hesitate to send the next year instead!

ETA: we've also talked about TTC with the hope that S and possible baby #3 be 2 grades apart. so i get thinking about it early!

Mine aren't any longer under two :silly: but they are 21 months apart. Oldest has an October birthday youngest a July birthday. Cutoff here is mid-August. They are both boys. The oldest went to Kindergarten last year and the younger one will be going this year. They will be one year apart in school.

Pluses: Going to the same school most of their school years! THIS IS HUGE!!!!! (Two different schools is two different schedules and drives.)
Minuses: Two in college at the same time. Both kids leave home close together. (Also, my husband thinks that since the youngest is almost in kindergarten he should be acting like his brother did. So silly! He's two years younger.)

Mine are exactly 2 years apart so 2 years apart in school; DD2 was due in Jan but was born in Dec. So they were supposed to be 2 years apart but 3 school years apart.

Mine weren't 2 under 2. They are 24.5 months apart, so they are basically exactly 2 years apart. Since they are July and August babies, they will be 2 years apart in school. I don't anticipate starting either girl late (cutoff around here is September).

Mine are 14 months apart (March and May). I would imagine that would put them 1 year apart. They are different genders, so hopefully it doesn't cause any issues.
