DS loves his paci and #2 is due right around his 2nd bday. I have no intent of taking the paci away before #2 comes, I'll just deal with it when he's a little older. He's good about leaving it in his crib, so I don't find it to be a big deal.

@hilsy85: yah! I feel like she doesn't need it, but it realllly makes life easier especially at naptime, so it is just a crap spot to be in, and I feel like we have to do it now/very soon, or just let it be and try in the Fall?

@Beebug: we may be in your situation soon! Lo is transitioning to 1 nap and the paci REALLY helps sometimes...he doesn't get it at bedtime, only in the car or if he's really fussy in the stroller.

@Mamaof2: lol yes. Nap time was tough with her so to help keep her down, she got it. No interest in it at bedtime, we did CIO for bed and nap time without it, but she ended up getting it back for naps, if memory serves me correctly she was napping better, and longer with it, which made her a more pleasant human to deal with the rest of the day, lol.

@Mamasig: we definitely don't offer it unless absolutely desperate or at that expected time of nap time. I will ask daycare and see if breaking it is a possibility, but if feel bad asking her to do so if that wrecks her time, and potentially the sleep of other daycare kids. Hmmm!

DS was a paci user until around a month a half ago. I wanted to get rid of it before #2 came. I lucked out in that he kind of got rid of it himself. He got a stuffy nose plus lots of teeth coming in at the same time. He couldn't breathe and suck at the same time so he got annoyed by it. I took advantage and stopped offering. He missed it at bedtime a little, but After a few days, he didn't even notice it was gone.

Maybe try not offering it slowly and see how she reacts? Take advantage of when she may not be interested in it.

So she only uses it at nap time but not bedtime?
Both my kids quit pacifiers at DCP 1st during nap.
I would ask them to try to get her down without it and just see what happens

I didn't know what to put this under, but hopefully 2+ kids is okay!

#1 is 15m and is a somewhat mild paci user, uses paci for her 1x nap per day, and otherwise never unless fussy, wakes too early from sleep, over tired, not feeling well, etc.

I have no reasoning for it, but I would love to completely cut it. I have daycare to factor in as well, I am not her primary care giver through the work week. If I were to cut it I feel it either needs to be now, or it won't happen until near her 2nd bday. #2 coming in May, and I am so not even planning on changing anything in #1's life on/near/just after #2 arrives. Her 2nd bday is October.

Momma's of paci using babies, did you cut paci before a close in age #2? Not bother? I realize not an actual problem, just trying to figure if it's easier on her to cut now versus let the attachment to it continue longer and it be harder next Fall? I could be making that thought up, just thinking keeping it longer could make it more awful to get did of?
