At our studio it is parents and toddlers up until age 3. I love our parent/toddler class and am sad she has to go by herself in the fall. There is no video streaming or windows at our studio so they are truly on their own starting at age 3.

DD1 started gymnastics at 2.5 and there are no parents allowed. There are lots of windows to look through, but we can't go in there.

ETA: I guess it's kind of like school/daycare, in that it's easier when the parents aren't around?

Glad to know it is normal! There is a live video stream for the parents at this studio as well.

LO has been struggling with aggression toward other kids when she is having "big feelings" so I am really nervous her ballet shoes will be turned into nunchucks and I will not be able to intervene! But I was assured that they are used to the adjustment period and that it is a small class.

Our 2-3 yr dance class includes the parents but at this point I think she may do better if I wasn't there. The next level class starts the drop off.

My DD started her class before she turned 3 and it is run this way. Teacher noted it's a big distraction when parents come in. There is a small video screen in lobby. They also had us come in to watch a class after a few months. All the girls in the class love it :)

No parents in C's dance class, and no windows. Her class is 2-4 year olds.

I think it's because mommy/daddy is a distraction, to be honest. C probably listens better without me right there.

When C was 2 1/2, the class through the city allowed parents in the first and last class of the session. The other classes, we had to sit outside and look in through the windows, like @T-Mom. Only one kid had separation anxiety issues, the other girls were fine.

When my DD took a ballet/tap class at age 2, parents had to wait outside and watch through the window. We didn't stick with it, it was too much for her.

I don't know how common it is but I remember my dance class (I was just under 3 when I started) and my grandmother and mother had to watch through a one-way mirror window. Parents were not allowed at all.

LO was supposed to start dance class today but it was cancelled because the teacher has strep. When talking with the woman at the studio on the phone, she mentioned that we might want to do the make up class Monday as well as the Thursday class next week to speed up the adjustment process, since parents are not allowed in the room. There is a live video feed for the parents. That surprised me! Is this typical?
