By that age I would think it was time to cut the bottles, so I would follow her cue. I'm not a huge fan of bottles after 1 personally though, so I switched both my LOs to sippy cups at that age and it didn't affect their sleep. By the sound of it, she is more than ready :)

@Mrs D: I would just cut it completely, because even though she's decreasing right now, an illness or upset night will make her want the comfort of a bottle again.

We had 1 bottle of milk (hemp milk) that we were still giving until right before LO turned 2. I was determined to cut out all bottles, and LO would sometimes take less but then go back to taking more and wasn't making any signs of dropping it on her own (she never dropped a bottle on her own, at any point). So I just stopped offering it. It was a rough 3-4 nights where she would cry for "big milkie" (I guess in her mind, the straw cups were small milkie, who knows), but I stood firm and she got over it. She did wake up a couple of times overnight asking for big milkie too, and my husband was ready to throw in the towel, but I pushed through and within a week, she stopped asking and forgot all about it.

Now, at 26 months, she doesn't care about baby sister's bottles at all. It's as if she has totally forgotten she ever took bottles. She DID however, totally stop drinking milk, but we give her a supplement, so...oh well.

I'd go with it and drop it if she wants to. DD dropped her bottles all together at 11 mos. Was so easy and great to just have her on sippy cups

@kiddosc: I have recently introduced a new book that she is obsessed with...I think that alone may distract her?

I would probably just cut it and not offer tonight. When we stopped nursing before bed, I switched him to getting his paci while we rocked and sang songs. When we cut the paci, I switched it to rocking and talking about what he did that day as a way to settle before bed. Maybe putting something new into the routine will help the transition.

So...

My 2 year old was taking two bottles (morning and night) each day until 20 mos. She would also take a bottle before her nap on weekends. Its the only time I can get her to consistently drink milk.

At 20 months I dropped her morning bottle. It was easy - one morning I came in and she said "morning mama - baba" and I said "no baba"...the next day she said "morning mama...no babe" and that was that!

Shortly there after we just stopped the bottle before nap time. Again, no big deal.

Our pediatrician indicated he would like us to move towards dropping the bottle before bed for teeth and teeth brushing reasons. I agree its time to stop - but like most am afraid of rocking the boat for a good sleeper!

Friday night she only drank about 4 oz of her 7oz bottle. Then said "all done" - slept great. Saturday she drank maybe 3 oz total and then all done - slept great. Last night I barely got 2 oz down her before "all done". This tells me she is full enough I think.

What would you do?

1) Just cut it and dont offer tonight?
2) Cut it and replace with a fun cup of room temp milk while she "unwinds" downstairs with us (she will not drink milk with dinner).
3) Offer until she stops completely on her own?
