G will be two next week and is obsessed with sitting on the potty and wearing "Uh-ner-wear." This is solely because he sees his big brothers doing this. That said, he has NEVER actually done anything at all on the potty. It's like all the work with none of the success. So . . . I say if your son is actually wanting to go and he's doing it (especially poop--that's major!), I would go for it! The worst thing that can happen is you eventually decide he's not ready and postpone for a little while.

My DD did the same thing but we didn't boot camp. I just started putting her in underwear and asking her every hour or so if she needed to go. There some accidents but not many. She basically trained her self. Roll with it!

I am personally really opposed to those 'bootcamp' training situations. Your kid seems to be really ready - so I'd just go for it, totally following their lead. Want to poop in the potty? Great. Maybe go diaperless for a few days? And if it sticks, great! If not, try again in a few months. Follow their lead, but don't push.

@HappyBaker: Haha I can be a wet blanket if you want me to? My DD2 trained at not quite 2 because she showed interest. It was easy, and she was doing awesome...but we had a new baby, moved, and changed schools a few months ago, and there's been a bit of regression..So if you want to give yourself an excuse and have any changes coming up, you can wait until after the change if you want to.

Personally, I'm still glad the bulk of the work is done and hope we will work through our rough patch. And as far as boys training later...a lot of my DD1's male friends trained sooner and easier than she did, so I'm not sure there's really truth to the boys train later thing.

Thanks all, not what I wanted to hear since I am not ready for this haha, but I think you're right if he is interested / wants it maybe it will be easier now rather than forcing it once he loses interest!

Our LO is 19mos & has shown some interest & had a few successful pees & poops on the potty. We plan to support her interest, but not push yet, since she's so young. I'd imagine seizing the opportunity is a great idea, as opposed to pushing it off & maybe getting resistance later.

My lo started showing interest 4 months before his second birthday. We took advantage of the summer months to loosely potty train and come September/October he was more or less trained. We didn't really push him just took his lead. Of course there have been accidents but it's worked well for us!

Every child is different! Ours was super interested around 18-24 months and we didn't push it because we thought he was too young. At that time, he was consistently using the potty. Now that we've finally decided to potty train (at 29 months), he has zero interest and it been a struggle. I regret not jumping on it when he was super interested.

My DS just turned two last week, and he is OBSESSED with the potty! He's pooped on the potty every day this week, and peed once on it. We aren't asking him about it at all, it's all him saying "I need poop" or "I potty" and then we let him sit.

With his success and interest, should we just go for it and start an actual "method" like the 3 day boot camp? I'm worried to miss the boat on training him when he's actually interested, but it just seems SO early and I wasn't ready for this at all, haha!

For his older sister, we did a boot camp type training when she was 2.5/2.75 but before that she didn't care about / sit on the potty at all.

Anyone else have a similar experience? Did your son really get trained this early? I'm worried he'll be potty trained and then by the time he's 3 we'll have to start over!
